gas fill ups...93 octane?

I just got my TL and plan on using premium gas (93). I was wondering if any of you may use something other than premium and how is it working for ya

Definitely only used 91 or higher especially with such a high compression ratio of 11:1. I personally prefer Shell V-power 93 octane.
Congrats on the car!

Is it bad to have a gas thread on here?? I did look to see if there was some previous posts on this topic.

KN_TL... I'm sure there is some threads on here...I didn't see any... but why post sarcasm, just don't post anything. I'm new to the site as you see and was just trying to get some opinions.

The dealership had regular in my TL when I bought it. First time I got on it, I could hear the engine pinging. Mileage was horrible on that tank of gas. I took it easy till the tank was almost empty, then filled it up with a tank of ultra 94 which was still availible at the time at the 94 octane rating and the car was like a whole new animal. A lot more power and much better mileage. With lower octanes, the computer will have to pull timing from the motor to prevent damage, which results in lower gas mileage and less horsepower, so you'll find yourself at the gas pumps more often and spending more money on the lower octane fuel which most people buy to save a measling 10 cents a gallon. Doesnt make much sense if you have to fill up more often. Hope this helps.

Dave.. I filled up with 93 and took a trip of 200 miles on mostly interstate and it says I was getting 30 mpg average. I'll take that considering I travel tons on interstate.

It's actually cheaper to fill up on the good stuff. Mileage suffers enough that you end up spending more money with the lower octane.

Cars that are tuned to run on premium are a good thing. Many people like cars that you can run 87 in but a car that can take advantage of 91 will get better mileage and power than if it were tuned for 87.

shell V-power 93 octane always and never had ECU thrown on me. You might have a better chance of getting ECU on regular gas

I don't mean to sound rude but this topic has been covered numerous times on the forums with it ending in people banned and threads closed. The conclusion of them, you can put lower grades in the TL if you want to, but it's bad for the car due to the knocking, and as well you don't save any money since your MPG drops down significantly by using a lower grade than 91.
