gas fill ups...93 octane?
Is it bad to have a gas thread on here?? I did look to see if there was some previous posts on this topic.
KN_TL... I'm sure there is some threads on here...I didn't see any... but why post sarcasm, just don't post anything. I'm new to the site as you see and was just trying to get some opinions.

The dealership had regular in my TL when I bought it. First time I got on it, I could hear the engine pinging. Mileage was horrible on that tank of gas. I took it easy till the tank was almost empty, then filled it up with a tank of ultra 94 which was still availible at the time at the 94 octane rating and the car was like a whole new animal. A lot more power and much better mileage. With lower octanes, the computer will have to pull timing from the motor to prevent damage, which results in lower gas mileage and less horsepower, so you'll find yourself at the gas pumps more often and spending more money on the lower octane fuel which most people buy to save a measling 10 cents a gallon. Doesnt make much sense if you have to fill up more often. Hope this helps.
It's actually cheaper to fill up on the good stuff. Mileage suffers enough that you end up spending more money with the lower octane.
Cars that are tuned to run on premium are a good thing. Many people like cars that you can run 87 in but a car that can take advantage of 91 will get better mileage and power than if it were tuned for 87.
