Gas cap cord
Gas cap cord
I searched and couldn't find any answer for my issue. I went to fill my car up today and the cord the gas cap is attached to the vehicle has come loose. Can someone take a picture of their cap and how it is connected?
Sounds like a perfect time to cut the cord off. I clipped mine the first day I drove home. It prevents the friendly gas station attendant from letting the cap bounce off of the side of the car and scratching the surface etc.

Thanks for the tip TBone.

No self service? I'd hate to think I'd have to wait for the attendant to come to my car, see what I want, do it at his leisure, take my payment, process it, get back with me, etc. I remember when I was a kid and my mom would only go to full service...it took forever! That, and like AMIC said, it costs more...gas is already too expensive.
TBone - funny you should mention the attendant putting it on the trunk...as I read your post, the first thing I thought was as you were saying they put it on the pump or hang it was "no they don't, they put it on the roof or the trunk."

For those who are not familiar with it, note that New Jersey stations charge the same for full-serve gas as the self-serve stations in surrounding states—it's not more expensive like it is in places where you have both options.
FWIW - I've ran into a few full service places in suburban Milwaukee (Brookfield). I knew something was wrong when the per gallon price was like $0.80 higher than normal. My first though was, "I know this is an Amoco, but DAMN!" then the friendly attend came out an informed me I was in full service.
Full Service everywhere in Jersey. Man, you do learn something new everyday.

Full service v. self service
On this map of the United States, states that allow self-serve gas are colored yellow and states that have banned self-serve gas are colored violet. All stations in New Jersey are full service, where attendants are required to accept payment from customers and pump gas for them. All gas stations in Oregon are also required by law to be full service. Customers are explicitly barred by statutes in both states from pumping their own gas. Both states prohibited self-service back in the 1940s due to fears that foolish customers would handle gasoline improperly. Although modern gas pumps are largely very safe, and smoking is going out of style, both states have retained their existing statutes as a kind of full employment measure.
The constitutionality of the full service statutes has been challenged. The Oregon statute was challenged in 1989 by ARCO and the New Jersey statute was challenged in 1950 by a small independent service station, Rein Motors. Both challenges failed.

I HATE having to wait for the "Gasoline Technician"
to fill my car. I can do it faster, cleaner and cheaper. Sometimes I will start to do it myself if the guy is napping in his little booth and I do not want to wait, but that usually pisses them off. I think it is a stupid law. Right up there with no tint and no permits for carry. Hmmm...why do I still live here?

I believe that NJ is the only state that has only full service stations. Sometimes it sucks because you have to wait for Habib to mosey on over to your car, pump your gas, wait to get your card back or pay cash, and other times it's good, like when the weather is miserable and cold. I've pumped my gas pleanty of times and they actually don't mind, guess it's less work for them to do. I remember the first time I had to pump my own gas, drove out to Ohio to meet up with some girl. I had to read the directions on the pump. She couldn't understand why I didn't know how to do it until I told her NJ is all full service.
Oregon to has only full service stations and I hate it. I allways need to have a chat with the idiots that just let my gas cap dangle from the car but now im going to cut it off thanks for the tip. We also chat when they think my car is a couch and can just lean up agaisnt it while they fill it up. Please just let me do it myself.....
