Hi, looking for feedback. I have a fuse, fuse #4, 10 amp fuse, that is for the steering wheel, climate control, and transmission lever lights. It keeps blowing. I thought it might be related to my aftermarket remote start, but today it blew again with a key start. It seems to be related to the heated seats. If I start the car up with the seat heater already turned on, the fuse blows. Can anyone think what might be causing that? I like to remote start the car with the seat heater on so that the car isn't as cold when I get in.
There is fundamentally a short in the electrical system somewhere. I'm assuming you're referring to #4 in the engine bay? It's alot more than just the 3 you've mentioned. I've attached all the items that are linked to that fuse. Start by checking the wires that are closest to whatever was being worked on.
Did you have a professional install the car starter or was it DIY? Was it the MPC remote starter model? Something tells me a wire related to Fuse#4 was accidentally cut and was not patched up causing the short circuit, that or incorrect wiring during installation.
The seat heaters are on a completely different fuse (#15 under the driver footwell). It's only the seat heater lights that are on #4. If #15 has not blow seperately you may be going down the wrong rabbit hole. If you suspect its an inherent voltage draw on the car, crank up your air blower fan, headlights, radio. If doesn't cause any issues when you remote start, it's likely not the issue.
So, I have four aftermarket products installed. A remote start, an iPod adapter, a remote camera, and a phone charger that is hardwired into the battery. These were all installed professionally in 2020. The fuse issue started about 5 weeks ago. The dealer is convinced it has to be something with an aftermarket product and wants to charge me $600 to start disconnecting them one after another, but nothing has changed with the install. The dealer rep said something to the effect of "Well, they are aftermarket, and we don't know if they have worn out." That didn't seem to make sense, and since this dealer tried to get me to put in new spark plugs simply based on mileage, without looking at the plugs at all, and since I had already installed new plugs four weeks before they recommended this service, I'm not feeling like said dealer is particularly trustworthy.
