Unhappy Fuel tank lid….GONE!!!

Fuel tank lid….GONE!!!

When you open the fuel cap to refuel, do you see a metal lid that keeps you from looking inside the fuel tank? It moves away when you insert the fuel hose.

Well, I swear I have seen it before, but recently I don’t anymore. I can see inside the tank, although it is dark.

I wonder where that metal lid went. Could it have broken and fallen into the tank?
And how can something like that break?

I am worried and I think a trip to the dealers will be coming up. If you guys have any kind of information on this subject please share.

Thanks

They don't put those in anymore. They did it when stations still sold leaded gas, to prevent using leaded gas in an unleaded car. The unleaded has a thinner nozzle so the little door, or sometimes just a smaller opening, was used but now that leaded is a thing of the past, it's not necessary to have the restriction.

There is no metal lid on the newer TL's. I know what you are talking about most older cars had it. But my wife's 05 Odessy and my 05 TL did not come with it. I think the last car we had with it was a 1998 chevy blazer?

Not sure why car makers had it or why they now got rid of it.

I always thought that metal flap was to prevent siphoning from the tank? And with a locking fuel door, maybe it is not needed?

No, it isn't for siphoning, I think there is something else for that. I needed gas for my scooter so I stuck a hose down into the tank of the Ford, it pushed the metal flap out of the way and went down and eventually stopped, However no gas was coming through, and when i pulled it out, it didnt have any gas on it.

Well trying drilling a hole in the bottom of the tank... Gas should come out... more than enough for your scooter...
