Frosting on Leather Seats

I don't know if this has ever happened to anyone, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I was designated driver one night and my friend decided to bring along a bunch of cupcakes from the party... before he gets into the car the entire plate of cupcakes is on my driver seat and console.

I've cleaned most of it out, except that there's frosting stuck in the little perforated holes on my driver seat. I can't really get it out with a pin or anything of the sort. I tried leather conditioner/cleaner, but it doesn't really do anything.

Do you guys know if it will cause any kind of problems if I don't get it out later down the line?

Thanks in advance!

it might cause bacteria or mold growth if left for too long. Your best bet would be to take a damp towel and run over the seats, and then take a vacuum and try to suck it up.

Wow man your not the only one. I bought a gallon of milk and put it in my back seat in a bag of course and the seal was broken and it dumped all out in my back seat

So since I never screwed my back seat in from lowering the car a few years back I simply pulled the whole back seat out and sprayed it down with hot water and waited for it to dry and it was fine. No mold

I would do that but make sure it dries all the way before you put it back in. There are just too many holes to get 1 by 1. GL

Next time I'd put those items in the trunk. Get the trunk tray if you don't have it.

use the woolite mixture to clean, and dampen the seats, then place a dry paper towel over the affected area and heat with hair-drier. This will melt any wax and the towel will abosorb it.

Hmm, I am considering avoiding perforated leather on my upcoming purchase after reading this thread!

How are you usually supposed to clean this type of seat?

Have you considered trying baking soda? I imagine that leftover frosting in the perforations could get nasty when the weather is warm. I have never tried this in the situation you described, but I use baking soda to clean around the house all the time. It is a gentle, all purpose cleaner that can kinda scrub up and absorb grease. At a time when the inside of your car is warm, you could sprinkle it on, maybe with a mist of water too if the frosting has dried up at all. Then if you had to add water, add more baking soda to make it a drier, vacuumable consistency, then you can vacuum it out of the holes. Again, I have never tried this.

haha that's funny. i was about to suggest the same thing. My friends always say I am way to picky cause I make them put everything in the trunk to avoid situations like that of the OP.

I usually file down a paper-clip and get it pretty thin (measure it with a micrometer) and then wrap a paper towel around it and then dip it in some woolite and clean out any holes with stuff in them (dirt, etc).

I don't have to worry about leather conditioner since I've started used the fold method. Put the conditioner on the towel, fold the towel over, then unfold and it should be dispersed and not get caught in the holes.

Your best bet on the cupcake stuff is to let it dry ... won't take but a day or two... look how fast a cupcake goes stale ... then us a vac and a tooth pick .. poke each hole as you vac the seat .. it will come up ..

Will take a while but its worth it.

If you wet it and dissolve it you risk rinsing it deeper into the seat.

Trunk tray FTW!

Ultimate frisbee league hasn't started but when it does, all the dirty/muddy cleats/clothes will be thrown in there and cleaned out with ease.

When I was in college a bottle of Listerine broke in the trunk of my 1982 Accord. Talk about awkward the next time anyone female was in the car!

I second the "let it dry method". Get as much as you can wipe out then wait for the frost to become dry and flaky. It should be easier to remove at that time, especially if you use a stiff detail brush.

The crayons are a different animal. It's more a problem with the color or dye of the crayon and not the wax material itself. Probably the best bet would be to remove all you can and have the leather spot match to hide the discoloration.
