Front License Plate Setups

Hi everyone, I just got a fix-it ticket today since i dont like the look of my car with the front license plate on. I have searched through so many pages and old posts on HOW to relocate the front license plate...and i have come up short on any good ideas.

Looking around, i see quite a few TL owners moving the plate onto the front let lower grille on the front bumper.

Also, i have heard people suggest buying the Tow Hook mount on ebay for...$33.
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=tow...late&_osacat=0

i really, really like the look of my car WITHOUT the front license plate blocking the sleek A C U R A lettering on the front bumper.

PLEASE HELP. Thanks!

-Brian

yes it is $150 but the cop's face will be priceless when he pulls you over for not having a front plate, only to see you had one the whole time!!

Plastic guard underneath? It's been done by a 3G. I'll find a way..it's only a license plate. Not much strength required to hold it up. I'd use it only parking or maybe in a pinch.

Or you can do like I did and make one for $6 ... Flip the plate up when parked or in touchy areas.

Here is my setup:

I bought the mounting bracket from AutoZone for ~$10. requires drilling into the bumper but you drill upwards so if you remove it, it's essentially invisible. Manufacturer is called Bell.

Doesn't that essentially cover up the air intake area? I might have used the other side.

from what i can tell, this mod does not affect the performance of my car. im not sure about other intakes or the stock intake, but my car has a fujita. i think that as long as the grille is not totally blocked off (air can pass around the plate and on the far right of the plate), you won't be suffocating the car

that looks pretty good but i agree - id put it on the side opposite to the intake duct.. do all of these type of "side" setups require drilling into the bumper? did you use bumper plugs to cover the front wholes where it says acura?

Have any of guys ever removed your front bumper? There is no air draw in that spot. He can leave his plate there. It looks good.

If you look at my front lip, the left and right side of it is lower than the middle. If I was to bottom that plate out there would be a lot more damage than just the plate being gone lol. There would be a for sale sign were the plate used to live. lol

I have no problem doing it, I would actually enjoy it, but unfortunately I won't be getting the plate - it won't last a week before someone rips it off while parking in front of me. I have a spiky plate cover, and that gets demolished within a few weeks.

The idea is great though for those who are blessed with normal drivers/roads/parking.

you can mount it anywhere u want, but personally i drilled right above the lowere grille (black plastic thing below the headlight). i checked for electronics/wiring behind the bumper and there is nothing there, but if you're doubtful about drilling, just stick your hand from the front of the car to behind where you're drilling and you can feel around.

also make sure to call AutoZone first. i had to go to two stores to track it down, but calling first woulda saved me a trip. just ask for the adjustable license plate mounting bracket by Bell.

It was easy. Let me start off by saying that I am dead against drilling holes in my car or cutting any wires. This install was ok with me. I did have to drill to 5/16 holes in the bottom of my lip spoiler/bumper. They gave me anchors to set in the holes but I decided to use my own stainless hardware and bolt the front of the assy. more securely. The back universal bracket I cut to size and bent at a 90. I tucked the bracket behind the lower rad plastic sheild and called it a day. If I can get a chance I will take a pic. The install looks extremely clean and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Wireing is also easy. Run wire, hide wire, red to pos., black to neg. done!

Dan, on the box/assembly itself, is there an option to say leave it in on or off state without using the remote? I'd prefer to hard wire it...negative at the park/ebrake.

It doesn't stop on its own. It will run the motor as long as power is going to it. If you keep holding the button after the plate has gone up or down it will probably burn out the motor. Didn't see any options/switches on the control box.

Aha so what you are saying, it is totally dependent on you pressing and releasing the remote? Or is it click, release, it goes in, click release, it goes out... you must hold and observe for completion?

so, is there any way just to mount it without drilling (having the plate like you do)? i am leaning toward the tow hook mount at this moment cuz no modificiations are required. but, i really like the look of it off to the bottom left!
