I've been running my 91 Maxima without the front license plate for years in Austin, no problems at all. Was even pulled over once for speeding (just got a warning ) and the officer made no mention of it.

I don't plan on putting a front plate on my new TL either, unless it becomes an issue.

I don't have plates on my S2000 but do on my Integra. The fiance doesn't run a front plate. It's a toss up... most cops won't give you problems, but you are gambling. I got pulled over once in my Maxima on my way to Austin from Dallas. The State Trooper was in front of me, he slowed down to 35 on my 65 to see if I was front Texas... then he pulled me over. When they just feel like pulling you over you have no choice.

The fiance was pulled over once for no front plate... but since we always keep our cars clean, the line was the car was just washed thus the plate was off. Got a warning and that was it.

Since '01 or '02 a front plate is optional in Texas. Check the statutes.

Could you please tell me where can I find this information (about front plate being optional in Texas) because i searched on the the net, and only found that texas does require both front and back plates.

Thanks...

Have to agree with atif. There was a story on one of the local newscasts within the past month citing DPD's increased diligence/ primary stops for things like state inspection, seat belts, and no front license plates.

I live in Arkansas and we are only given one plate. I own a logistics company and we have an office in Dallas which we have 15 delivery trucks running. All of which only have one plate. We have been told on more then one occasion that we need two plates, but its a real pain in the arse to do that and reregisiter those trucks in TX so we dont. Never been sited for it yet...just told. Now watch tomorrow our Dallas office is shut down for not having two plates on our trucks.:p

Dang,

At one time I had the statue of the state of Texas, but can not find it. I looked it up a few months ago as it was a discussion on the RX8 forum. However, it is the law in Texas that you have both a front and back license plate. Anyone that tells you otherwise is lying.

However, like a lot of people say, it is a toss up if you get stopped or not.

In Texas the Law requires a front plate those who think otherwise is mistaking and lots of departments are cracking down on it as well.

It is STILL required. There was a proposal to make it not required in Texas, but that didn't pass.

(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.
(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle, other than a vehicle assigned license plates for the registration period, that does not properly display the registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the license plates have been validated for the period.
(c) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a road tractor, motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license plate, attached to the rear of the vehicle, that has been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.
(d) Subsections (a) and (b) do not apply to a dealer operating a vehicle as provided by law.

As one who has gotten pulled over, I will say "put it on." Ironically I had the plate off because the bracket lost a screw and was looking for a replacement. The officer didn't care and a $75 ticket was the result.

Another dumb new law in Tx is the one with the license plate frames, if it partially covers any of the lettering its against the law. You can get a ticket for it now!

Wrong. I got a ticket in 2002 for no plate on my CL-S.
