Angry Friggin tint problem makes NO sense!

Doesnt look like my am/fm radio is going to get fixed...dealer is telling me they have to take OFF the tint to look at my antenna..wtf!
I dont understand how tint messes up some cars but not others.
I have the exact same tint on my CL and my TL...llumastar metallic. The CL has zero problems..the TL has many problems. WTF! I have to believe that the installer f***** up on the tl...of course no one will cop to that. This friggin sucks.

I have heard of tint interfering with radio signals. The only way for the dealer to really tell if its the tint is to take it off and try t.

as i understand it, the radio antenna is under the window tint. so the only way to trouble shoot or replace the antenna is to take off the tint.

yes but..

The antenna is in the window...but it has to connect up to the head unit somewhere...I have a friend who does tint and he said there is no way the tint would f up both my am and fm....does anyone have a schematic of where the head unit connects up to the back window ? Any acura guys out there?

The antenna is on the inside of the window I think. Was it in your previous car? I would think if a metallic tint is touching the antenna it could cause problems. If your previous car had the antenna on the back window I guess its something else like the tint place cut the film on the window to size it and cut the antenna. That happened to me with the rear defroster in a previous car and one of the heat lines stopped working.

How can they not mess the AM and FM up at the same time? Aren't they on the same antenna?

My point exactly. If we have the same car how can he have no problem and I do ? I got my hands on a schematic and picture of the antenna for the 04 tl...I feel one(or both) of these wires is knocked off---I spoke to my tinter and I inspected the lines on the window...they are not cut anywhere(all the cutting for the tint that goes on the glass is on the outside and then its one big piece of tint)--Its possible that maybe the tint shop knocked the wires loose...they are quite flimsy looking and could easily be hit by the edge of the tint---I would take it back to the tint shop but they have no clue how to fix it outside of taking off the tint which would not solve the problem. I am taking it to another dealer who said they would take care of it no charge because its a brand new car. Its things like this that will give that dealer my future business for service and purchases...

No. Only FM get it's signals through that antenna. AM radios use a coil surrounding a metallic bar. It's probably in the head unit itself.

Alright, yeah, I was a little unsure about that statement.

Anyway, SilverJ, you are asking how can he get tint without a problem? Simply put, your tinter screwed something up. Even if he tells you he didn't, why would he admit it? When do people, ESPECIALLY in the car industry, ever admit mistakes. Even with recalls they won't recall a car if they will lose too much money, no matter how big the problem is, as long as it stays out of the media.

I agree---

the tinter screwed something up...they will never cop to it though. I had these guys do my last car before with no issues so I am not going to tell anyone not to go to them..YET...let me see what the dealer says next week. I am bringing it in and they said they will try to fix it.

If thet is true how come my AM took a big hit with tint? Or is the tint blocking out the radio signal from getting inside then?

not true...

I have a diagram of the antenna hookup...the am,fm and defroster are all hooked up to the back window----have the dealer check the am connector...
I refuse to believe some cars are affected and some arent...thats a load of bull...
If the tint shop bumped these little connectors it would screw up the am or fm or both. My problem really cant be solved by the tint shop as they have no clue how to locate or fix the antenna hookup. The dealer does...
I will find out next week and will report back..I feel pretty good that they can fix it. Time will tell...

I had llumar titanium film on a z-28 comaro and it killed the am radio. There have been numerus post concerning this problem with any metallic tint and you should have read that before screwing up your radio. It is not the dealers fault you tinted your car and messed up the radio. The am radio has a bar ferrite ant inside the radio. If you can imagine listening to a portable am radio and then walking inside a metal building. It kills the reception. That is how the metallic tint on your car is. The wave length of the am radio band is 2oo-300meters for just one wave length. That is why the ferrite ant. has hundreds of yards of wire wrapped around it.

I have Llumar Titanium and have no problems with AM or FM radio reception. I was told the titanium was inert and didn't have any reactive metallic properties. Seem right as I haven't had any navi problems either and its been over six months.

it's not the only way, they could install a temporary AM/FM antenna to the head unit and move it outside and inside of the car and measure the signal strength...
it's a lot easier than taking the tint off the car just to check.
