Friendly fun with the 370z
As some of you may know, my friend just recently got a red 370z 6MT. He's been driving it as much as he can to break it in (currently around 1100 miles...). Let me tell you, this thing is SEXY in person, and he has already bought the Stillen intakes lol. He hasn't installed them yet because it's a PITA job, but he will.
On to the fun...he finally had enough miles for us to play around, so we did a little bumping and grinding
1st attempt: We started from a low 1st gear roll, ~10mph. 3 honks and we're off. Even through 1st, 2nd I gain a fender and 3rd I pull to where he is on my bumper. 4th gear he starts to creep back and we shut it down. Wow!!
2nd attempt: Dig. I get the better launch and he is at my bumper at the top of 4th.
3rd attempt: 20 roll. 1st gear is even, 2nd gear I creep, 3rd creep a little more, 4th gear he is on my bumper.
He is completely stock with 1100 miles (VQs get stronger as they progress) and had a passenger. No he is not a bad driver. Yes, I was shifting like a DSG transmission

Na the Z is actually pretty light...
Thanks Satin. My friend does weigh about 250 and the passenger prob 200, so without the passenger he would pull. And after he breaks it in more yes, he will definitely get me.
EDIT: He has the base model too, about the same weight as my car.

Damn bro, your car hauls ass!! Haha nice kill, I bet your buddy can't wait to get some mods installed and return the favor lol
You have a very impressive kills list Sonnick
You think you would be able to stay ahead of him if you guys go faster? Say to about 145mph or so...on a closed course of course

At higher speeds, no he would definitely get me because I have a limiter...we actually went into 5th one run on the straightest, longest road ever (basically a track), and we were dead even. But without the passenger, he would slightly pull on me at all speeds I'd assume. For me to make it that close was very surprising, yet I say it's because he had a passenger.
Once I do the 3" exhaust it should even out again without a passenger. But he will probably be doing the intakes at the same time Lol. Supposedly they make really good power.....

However, with an identical 2.249 60' I'd expect at least a 13.7. I should be able to 60' better than that, so I'm hoping for 13.5.

That time was run with I/Jpipe. I now have PCDs/E/Ported IM. I am also upgrading to a 3" exhaust hopefully by this weekend. With a better 60', the ET in my sig should've been 13.8 at least, but that is the best run I've had so far. I haven't been to the track with my current mods.

What do you weigh, Sonnick? I guess I can see it if the Z had close to 300 extra pounds of passenger and maybe a full tank of gas and Sonnick was light on gas. We're talking a good 4/10 right there. I think once he's broken in and acclimated to the car and of course driving solo it'll be a different outcome.
Sounds a little ricer, but I like to travel light on gas and even sans spare tire and tools. Coupled with the 40-50 lbs I lost with bolt ons, it puts a non-navi 6MT at a respectable weight; under 3400 lbs.

Well, I trapped ~101 with just I/Jpipe. I don't see why I wouldn't put on another 3mph+ with my current mods...especially after my 3" exhaust. If it was without a passenger then it'd be fishy. But considering I put down 255whp and the 370s do about 270-275 and weigh the same, it makes sense. Yea it's not all about peak power I know, but you have to remember with me in the car it's 3350. At that point his car probably weighed 3650, that's a 300lb difference.
I weigh 150lbs and had 1/2 tank of gas. I can probably get a video of us going with/without passengers or whatever, really. He has a video camera. He may have the intakes on at that point, but it's whatever. I'll try to get a vid
ANX: I have no doubt when he's riding solo that he will pull. The car isn't broken in and he had added weight, that's clearly the culprit. I was just surprised to say the least, but it actually makes sense if you think about it!

Sonnick- Your Accord better run 104mph in the heat or I'm going to have to say the Z needs a driver mod because even 3,600lb G37 sedans get 104mph traps

VQ powah is misleading because the powerband is so flat and long. My G felt a lot slower than my well modded 14.3@99mph 96 Maxima it replaced. I figured the G would do 14.7-14.8@95mph. On my 6th pass, my auto G did a 14.3@98mph with no power mods.

If it doesn't trap 104 then I have no explanation of how I keep up with these cars. I may be off every once in awhile with carlengths, but not to any such of an extent that would make it false or misleading (within 1/2 car). I try to be as accurate and truthful as I can!
These runs were in fact very fair, and very close each time. It was either dead even or he was on my bumper. With 255whp and 3350lbs (w/driver), I should be @ 104 I'd think.

Sonnick, you need to get a short shifter kit and some aluminum shifter bushings. I know you shift fast .. but that might cut it down a little bit more.
I just installed my COR Sport shift bushings and man what a difference, very accurate and precise shifting.

I have the Corsport bushings too, I just haven't installed them yet! Maybe tonight! Hopefully it'll stop the "moving around" in each gear. I can literally move the shifter almost 1 full inch up/down while in every gear
Satin, that's a nice improvement! I definitely need to get my hands on the pulley!
Based on my previous trap of 101 before E/PCDs/ported IM, I'm hoping for 3+mph improvement. However, I trapped anywhere from 97.5 to 98.9, then 100.82 on the 3 separated times I went to the track with those mods. Obviously that's a huge difference. I felt the car being sluggish in one of it's "moods" on that 97.5mph day. Felt like a different car to be honest.
Oh, but I did improve 2mph from the 1/8th to 1/4 when I went back with my E/ported IM...I just didn't run a great time because I F'd up the launch and my clutch was slipping on ice, so I had to feather through 2nd. I got through the 1/8th @77.x and finished the 1/4 @ 100.1 whereas with just I/J I did 79.95 in the 1/8th and 100.82 in the 1/4. And I'd assume the PCDs are good for at least 1-1.5mph, so I can't wait!

I'd set aside some time to get the installation done ..
Make sure to get a flat head screw driver, vice grips and a lot of elbow grease to get the old ones out. The DIY on VE-SIX-P was helpful ..

Good luck at the strip. The heat is going to kill your car's performance. It's why I don't waste my time running in the warmer months. It's just disappointing.

Not until Fall. I really haven't been into it for past few years. Once I get my ECU flashed and have the rev limiter extended, I'll go back. I need the extended limiter to take advantage of the new gears and short DRs I plan on running. The only things left to do on my car are the flash, some sort of high flow cats (possibly test pipes), and possibly the OEM headers from the 07/08 VQ35HR. After that, the power stuff is done for the G and I'll focus on getting an auto-x car like an S2000. I'd love to see a 13.9 for my G.

Thanks, yes the heat is going to kill my performance but I have an itch to go and even in the hot weather the car feels strong with the new Jpipe. I don't plan on running my fastest time but I can get a good idea with what the DA is and plugging that in to see what the correction factor is.

I will definitely try to get at least 1 video. I'll tell him to bring his camera. It won't be the same results since he now has Stillen intakes, but should still be a good run for the camera
I'll ask my other friend to come in my car so we'll each have a passenger so it could be more fair. Maybe even a before/after 3" exhaust I'm gonna say he'll pull about 2 cars from a low 1st gear roll to 4th.

I swapped in the rear carrier (includes pinion/gear, LSD) from a 6MT G35, which is about a 7% increase in torque multiplication over the automatic gear set. The DRs are about 2.5" shorter than stock which increases torque multiplication another 7%. The biggest reason I did the swap was to get the limited slip differential from the 6MT. It was a pretty simple job. Unbolt the half shafts, unbolt the driveshaft, remove a few bolts from the chassis, drop the old carrier and swap in the new one.

Staying OT, how have you liked the LGT? I'm replacing my wife's mint 98 LGT wagon and replacing it with a 2007-2010 Outback. She doesn't care about power and would be fine with the NA H4. That would be fine for me, but the XTs sure look nice and same with the H6. I also like that the XT/3.0R come with the JATCO 5AT found in my G. The NA H4s come with the old school 4EAT. I've been avoiding the XTs because it seems like the turbo has it's issues, especially with the inline oil filter to the turbo. Apparently it can get clogged and starve the turbo of oil. Lots of XT owners also report driveability issues such as stumbling, random CELs, etc. Are the problems as widespread as reported?
