Freakin' Body Kit!!

While backing up in a parking lot this morning, my newly installed rear underspoiler tapped, and I mean BARLEY TOUCHED, the licesnse plate frame of another car. I now have two indents in the plastic of the spoiler. I tried touchup paint but that doesn't help. I am realy disappointed with the fragility of the body kit....this was the slightest of contact, and the plastic caved like PAPER!! I would like to contact Acura to complain about this as now I am faced with possibly having to buy a new rear part.

Anyone else have an issue like this?

List price $1000.00 including installation. I paid half price of everything such as OEm back up sensor,Deck lid spoiler, OEM body kit, Sun visor, Body side molding from Mongomeryvill Acura. The car was a show room and list price was $ 37,500. I paid $34,400.00.

Thanks guys. I emailed the Service Manager at my dealership. and complained. He's a good guy, we'll see if he can help me. I'm not satisfied with the touch up paint. I want it perfect.

BTW, Asian, I bought my first Acura (an Integra back when I was in college) from Montgomeryville....they had a great service dept. back then.

They still have good Service Dept. I had them replaced new 04 front cover seats for butts print and also will have my LF strut replaced 1st week in May because I complained the squeak noise under front suspension. Also,Free lifetime Pa inspection.

you cannot bitch about this. are you kidding me? do not transfer the blame. it was your fault. own up to it. its not like the whole thing tore off or something. YOU hit another car's license plate with 2 POINTY bolts with your rear bumper and you expect nothing to happen? its not like the bolts holding the license plates are made of marshmallows.

i think you should call and bitch to the person's car you hit and yell at them for using bolts to hold on their license plates. it is more reasonable to do that then yell at acura for damage like that.(got the sarcasm or did you miss that too?)

i mean, hey, im sorry that your car got into a minor accident. In this situation, Acura is not at fault

i hope you have off-street parking! and if you don't save your money, cuz you will need it to fix all the dings and scrapes of people hitting your car while it is parked. trust me, YOU don't need to worry about hitting anyone while parking, it's everyone else parking around you that is the problem.

I doubt I will have off street parking. I guess it depends where I end up living. I think I will end up living at my dad's for the summer so I won't be downtown - then depending on where I end up, Northwestern or Loyola... I will have parking garage for Northwestern; however, from my understanding Loyola doesn't have parking at their downtown campus anywhere.

Not a whole lot you can do with repairing painted urathane, however you can wet sand those 2 indentions and w/ some patience and touch up paint you can make them much less noticeable.

somebody hit my front bumper back in august after a cubs game, and it cost me $500 to get it fixed and repainted

they would probably fill the two indentations/sand it/then paint it........this is what they did with mine

I understand your point, but I'm serious when I say it was a barely a touch!! The plastic these parts are made of are like silly putty!! I could probabaly cause an indent with my finger!!
If I have to buy a new part, I will, but for as much as the body kit costs, I would think it would be a quality item with more durability. Bumpers are made to give for dent resistance, but this thing just melts!!!

How's This For Service!!!!

Spoke to the Service Manager from my dealer today and explained what happened (see above)....He agreed right off the bat that the body kit IS "extremely fragile." He then said that he'll have his guy try to fill the indents and repaint/blend only the small damaged areas. Said there's a 90% chance I won't be able to tell anything was done and he won't charge me.

I said I wasn't too sure about having it painted and he said to just let him try it....He has to attempt to fix it first, but if it's not to my satisfaction, he said he'll get me a new rear underspoiler and install it for FREE!!!

He then asked if I could drop the car off next Wednesday...I said it might be tough for me to get there before work. So, knowing that I live 25-30 minutes from the dealership, he offered to meet me near my house the night before and give me his MDX for the next day.

I couldn't be happier with this service!! I never thought I cared about the so-called "better" service from the luxury divisions of automakers, but this is great. It really makes owning an Acura a much nicer experience than owning the average car.

Come on....
Granted, I caused the damage because if there was no contact there wouldn't be any.... HOWEVER, anyone with the body kit has to admit that the plastic is EXTREMELY thin.
