Flushing Transmission...

So I'm getting my transmission flushed this weekend.

Replacing oem fluids with amsoil.

Anything wrong with having the shop flush 2x with their shop fluid and then the last flush with my amsoil?

FLUSH = BAD!!!!! flushes cna damage the tranny, only thing you should do is the 3X drain and refill with good transmission fluid as the cleaners and solvents can damage the transmission, filling it with dirt and other things. Alot of the other members will say this as well, so will you dealership. BTW, theres something about this in an acura bulletin, called flushs are a big taboo or something like that.

thanks for the article. ok, so what about for a a drain & refill? I was thinking of using a synthetic transmission fluid, similar to how gm synchromesh works well for mt's

Given the potential for this car to have tranny problems I would stick with 100% Honda Z1 fluid.

Lee,

I agree. Honda/Acura recommends against flushing. The only approved method is the drain/refill three times. That is a simple procedure that you can do your self.

You should drive in between the drain/refills to circulate the fluid.

Remember that the tranny is sealed and there is no combustion in there. That's why the fluid lasts so long.

But Honda/Acura uses a special AT Fluid with extra Friction Modifiers. I would recommend you stick with that. It might be a little more costly, but you will probably only do it once during your ownership of the car.

With three drain and fills, I think you replace about 90% of the fluid. The magnetic drain plug collects the metallic debris. You just wipe that off.

There is a plastic belly pan that covers the tranny drain bolt. You pop the plastic retainer pins in the front by lifting the center part with a small screw driver and then there are two bolts at the rear. I think they are #10. You don't have to drop the pan. After you loosen it, you can rotate it to the side enough to clear the drain bolt.

IIRC, Acura suggests this at 100,000 miles? So, if you do it at 50k, for example, you should be good to 150k. In any case, tranny rebuilds are expensive. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Are you all saying that it is recommended to stick with the Honda fluid with A/T only? Or does this apply to M/T as well? I'm a M/T, and I'm currently using Royal Purple.

You need to ask them why they say this? It might be just that they use the "term" flushed. If not ask them about what is being talked here.

Also, is your car that old to change the AT fluid?
