First oil change

First oil change
Hello I was wondering when do you do your first oil change? Mileage? I have had my TL for two weeks now and I have 700 miles on it. blk/camel/navi/6 speed. Nice!

I did mine at 2500 miles, about 1/2 what the mid tells you.
I used havoline 5w20 which is supposed to be good, and close
to the original factory fill.
First oil change early to get the leftover dirt and wear metal out, then
go with the mid or roughly every 5000 miles.

I'd run the factory oil for 2-3K before changeout. You can change it out earlier, but I only suggest Havoline 5w-20 if you do so. Changing the factory fill at 2-3K is quite conservative, as it is unnecessary to do it prior to that mileage as it'd be overkill.

I did my first tonight. Can someone give me the good and bad on these:
4,582 miles
Honda filter 15400-PLM-A01
Castrol Syntec Blend 5W-20
Thanks.
P.S. I didn't raise the car, I re-used the washer, and I reset the MID.

~4K miles, ~4 months, Castrol Syntec 5W-20
I have a 2005 NBP/Camel/non-nav/6MT. I really like the black/camel color combo.

I think the old school of thought was because the manufacturing processes left behind metal shavings, hanging burrs, grit and other residuals the first oil change should be very early to get them out of the system before they load up the filter and/or circulate causing abrasive wear. Today's quality control systems are much tighter thanks to competition and techniques of six sigma taking variation out and ensuring the expected results of a process are reproduced repeatedly. 30 years ago getting 100K miles out of a car was impressive, now it's a half-life. With that said I just changed my oil at 2200 miles.....what's $25 for a $30K investment?

castrol anymore.
The point of a synthetic blend is?
If a good regular oil like the havoline 5w20 is good for over 5000 miles, why
pay more?
Myself, I go with the havoline oil and an oversize mobil 1 filter (M1-104).
If I was to use the synthetic oil, I would use a good one (mobil 1) and run
it for at least 10,000 miles to offset the price somewhat.
Using a good synthetic oil and extended drains, the mid goes out the window.
Running synthetic oil and following the mid is a huge waste in the TL.
Seems like a lot of people spend a lot of time and maybe money thinking about
the oil, but how many people keep a car till 200,000 miles or more?
Unless you drive the wheels off the car, what oil you use, running synthetic
and changing it every 3000 miles, is not going to impact you at all if you trade
the car in at 6 years and 90,000 miles.
That said, if you are going to pay whatever for oil, you might as well pick
a good one for the price.

I did the first oil change when the system told me too, which was around 4500 miles. Before college I worked for Valvoline and I stand by their products.. I run 5-w20 all climate... I've always found it funny when people change their oil before 3000 miles, its just a waste of money...

Everyone has an opinion on engine oil.
Now, if Mr. Michael Wan stepped into this conversation and said Castrol was dung water, then I would consider changing it. From what I remember, I thought either Michael Wan and/or Road Rage (Acurazine's very own oil experts) mentioned Castrol was one of the better oils,, IE - at least better than average..

I was told by Johnson cams that castrol changed their additive package,
on the 20w50 anyway, and they would not warentee their cams
(in my motorcycle) if I ran it.
They said they reduced the extreme pressure lubricant.
They recomended valvoline and havoline among other brands.
I used to always use fram filters and castrol oil, then found out fram
changed their filters (not for the better) after they got bought? by some
other company.
So now I research what I use a bit, and the havoline oil is recomended
by the experts who actualy get the oil analized, the only real way to KNOW
if an oil is good.
Bob the oil guy rates filters, and the purolator pure one and the mobil 1 filters
are good. I did not make a list of the top oil filters, once I found the
typical ones sold around here, I go with them.
A few dollars extra for a filter does not bother me, so I run the mobil 1 filter
as I always find it at the oil parts places.
Really though, unless you plan on running the car to very high miles, I doubt
it makes one bit of difference what oil or filter you use if you change it 5000
miles or under.
The motorcycle is different, its old tech (1969 Triumph Daytona) and gets
a lot of hard use, so good oil pays off.
I found some valvoline 20w50 not street legal oil that has lots of extra
additives in it that would ruin catalytic converters if used in cars.
