FIRST DRIVE - 2007 TYPE-S - Pics inside
Well, driving past my dealership today and saw they had a RRP/Ebony TL-S 6MT sitting out front. Whipped a quick u-turn, and went hunting for my salesman....
After finding him, bs'ing for a bit, I took the car for a drive.
First Impressions:
- The Key, love the flip out style like the RDX, so nice in the pocket.
- Exhaust looks awesome in person, front end looks good, but fog lights actually look a bit out of place...hard to explain
- Interior has added sections on the lower seats, new stitching on door panels, different aluminum-look trim, red guages, red display for temp and radio...that was wierd....
The drive:
- Definitely an increase (noticeable) in power, even compared to mine with the AEM and deleted resonator.
- Most noticeable was torque, especially mid-range. The car just has more oomph from about 40 and up in all gears.
- Handling was not really any different, at least not to me.
- Wheels were not as good looking as I thought....kinda bland.
Other:
- Rear bumper is HOT!
- Rear Spoiler is HOT!
- Tail Lights are HOT!
- Exhaust note no different than a normal TL
- Three-Spoke steering wheel is nice
- Nav Upgrades are awesome...I want that the most
- Rear View Camera is very clear, good viewing angle
- PHONEBOOK UPLOAD!!!!
- TRAFFIC!!!!
Otherwise, the car was no different than another TL. I dont really know if it's worth upgrading now, or waiting for the new redesign that's due for 2009......I will most likely wait, especially considering the price jump to $38,795!
I do have plenty of pictures, but I'm at work now...I'll try to get them up tonight or tomorrow morning. Thats it for now, if I think of anything else, I'll post it up!

The quad exhaust is just a difference in tips, you'd need to change the pipe and resonators to really do any sort of audible result.

I thought they had a redesigned Exaust system...
Can someone explain in detail what the phonebook thingy is?

Its a matter of taste, but I think it looks more like Pontiac than Honda.

Well, I'm a bit disappointed. The exhaust note was what I was most looking forward to in the Type-S. Those Quad tips seemed to almost promise a new lustier tone.
I was almost certain that Acura was gonna create an exhaust note that would atleast compare to the G35.

But ive never owned a TL...
So tell me this, how do they sound then?, I know you expected a upgrade from the regular ones, but for a guy like me who will hear and see it for the first time, does it sound good?

I was looking forward to an intoxicating exhaust note as well....like a precursor to 4G TL's note.

See the car yourselves to determine if exhaust note changed.

He might not be as attuned to the stock TL's exhaust note now, between the added exhaust burble and intake roar from the mods to his now-non-stock TL!
You need to drive or listen to the new '07 TL and TL-S yourselves to see if there is any change in the exhaust note.
Personally, I prefer the TL's subdued exhaust notes to the G35's continuous burble. And I agree with the poster who mentioned that the quad tips make the TL look like a Pontiac-- every car with quad tips (M3s, 'Vettes, M5s, etc.) looks to me like it was the victim of a run-in with a JC Whitney catalog.
For performance purposes, no car "needs" quad tips anyway.

yes, and it's fatter than the standard TL decklid spoiler.....
CleanCL, I was thinking the exact same thing, but then again, intake and procats on a 04-06 TL, and you are still cheaper than a TypeS (by quite a bit, even still cheaper with an exhaust, and a S/C depending on the deal you find on a new 06 Tl....cheap cheap!), and beating a TypeS.

I saw the Type-S at the auto show yesterday and was only impressed with the rear of the car for exterior styling. I love the gauges and steering wheel and the new stiching on the seats and doors. I dont think it is worth the money to upgrade. My wife made a point as this would be the selling alternative for those that dont really know how to mod. People that want a performance sedan without going aftermarket. I think it is a healthy platform and the fact that the Type-S is the only TL that will offer a 6 speed manual from now on. I am more anxious on what will happen with the 2009 redesign...any insight/photos from TL-CrAzIe-05 would be worth some money!!!

no, they know me well enough....my salesman came out with the key for me and said
"Take it for a drive and come find me when you get back." We are pretty good friends actually, so everyone there knows me very well.....

Is the quality of materials updated? like the leather? I heard they use softer and more durable leather for the 07's. Do the windows still rattle when closing the doors with the windows down?

Three Wheelin'
Fuck yeah cd text! mp3/wma cd is extra for me, with the aux its the 3.5mm jack not left/right inputs correct?
So the new deck lid spoiler is "fatter".. does it stand taller? hard to see a noticeable difference.
Niiiice
Thanks for the pics what kind of camera did you use?

i've called 2 junkyards so far to notify me when an 07 type S comes in. I want alot of those minor things! Door panels, seats, headlights, tail lights, head rests...(maybe)
does anybody know if the steering wheel would be able to function on the 3G?
Hey johnny, is the stock type S shifter shorter? it looks a little shorter than the stock 3G shifter.

Fightin' Texas Aggie
Thanks for the great pics. I'm still not feeling the front end or the red interior displays. And I still can't believe they skimped on putting aluminum on the dead pedal. I defintely wish I could get the upgraded navi and the rearview camera.
