I currently drive a black 05 TL Auto. It has 122K on it now. And I took all the old mods off of it, making it stock again. I looked into Evo's, Camaro's sportier than the usual car. But I return once again to the TL forum to say. I have indeed found my favorite. I like knowing I can get 29MPG still with the sporty edge not going too over the top. I finally after searching ALL over for one in NY, have found one in CT and it's Black on Black, Type S 6 Speed! It has 34K on it. And the dealer told me he knew the previous owner very well. It was a 50yr old woman. And she was extremely strict on maintenance! Which is awesome. I also got a Full 100K mile warranty to cover any issue that may arise. The car is literally spotless, not a single knick or scratch!
I got it all in all for 25K! And they're giving me 8K for my TL with 122K. Not too bad, considering it needs a lot of work done on it. So I am finally indeed in the Type S boat!
And I'm modding it with all the mods I had on the previous TL.
Now the question I have is. What should I look out for? Any known problems that I can avoid?
Here's some pics of my current TL with the new TL-S.

And here is what my BASE TL looked like when it was modded:

I've had some good times in this thing. Sorry if I posted way too many pics. :P

50 yr old woman driving a type-s... Hmmmmm
Why is it that every used car brought from a dealer was driven by a 50+ year old lady???
Congratulations on the new ride. It does look spotless and still has a real nice shine. I wish mine was a 6-speed...

congrats, but i can't believe you trust the dealers when they say a 50 year old lady owned it.. it's always a lady and it's always a 50 year old..haha.
Also, your modded TL looked pretty stock. Probably could of sold the type S tails before trading her in too

Well. I asked him pretty in depth questions. And I'd believe the guy. Ya never know... Good point though. XD But all in all, the car is freaking MINT. Nothing I could nit pick about.
I kinda liked the way it looked. It made it look awesome with the exhaust tips. In my eyes it made it look like a special edition TL. Plus I did it so my friends could easily spot me out between other TL's. I dont plan to do it to the Type S. I liked it.

So what's there to look out for on this car opposed to my AT TL? Any known issues that I should be aware about?

Crunchy 3rd gear...swap out OEM trans fluid with GM Synchromesh. You may get engine ping under load on hot days...no known fix yet except trying higher octane fuel. And apart from the odd rattle, which you're probably used to...enjoy!
Yeahhh, that 3rd gear is a bitch. Mine is under CPO warranty, but I just don't feel like getting it fixed (heard horror stories). I'll probably just do the Synchromesh swap.
Anyways, congrats! 6MT TL-S FTW (acronyms are fun).

I am absolutely loving it. It's amazing... I never thought like the 6 speed was this amazing. And now I see why.. And thanks everyone! I will post some better pictures soon. The performance over my Base is immense! I wonder what she's gonna be like with the ATLP and Intake! Oh and it definitely was a 50yr old woman. Her voice was programed into the system and it's obvious! But damn. Everything in this car is mint. I dont see a single imperfection. I'm loving it 100%. So yeah! PICS SOON!
Nice trade budy!!!!!
A nice mod i've done is the precat delete w/RV6 J pipe witch remove the third cat. It's sound great (not to loud) with a good HP/TQ gain. I'll post my new 1/4 mile just to confirm!!!!!!

Get back to me on that new 1/4!
Two things.
1- Third gear problem was fixed in 07 for the 6 speeds as I rebuilt my tranny with type-s internals so there is no problem in them
2- I have seen 50 year old women own this car and know of women who own this car. What seems to be BS for me is that its a 6 speed. no 50 year old woman owns a 6 speed, and I know women who are 50 that can drive 6 speed, but really, its VERY VERY rare, if even possible that a 50 year old women owns a 6 speed unless it was her weekend car.
Also. Nice car, looks great. EVOs are a headache and cops will hate you. Atleast you have class/style and performance now. :thumbs up:

Here's some pictures AND:
I made a video of the car with the exhaust on it! At the very very end there is a small clip of the exhaust sound. I have other videos, but I will add them later that shows the sound much better.

Watch in HD! ;D

Once again: how it looked on the previous TL.

Take good care!

I made a picture months ago, when I had no plan on trading in my base TL. This was a picture I made:

Ironic thing is, she's sitting in my garage right now. Haha. And it looks just like it! I love the car, just the manual transmission takes a little bit to get used to. It loves to be very grabby. Also the thing loves to accelerate FAST, a lot faster than the base TL. It's quite a different beast. Two great cars, though one's a bit meaner..
One issue I am having is, I want to add my CAI, It's my AEM V1. And well I had a rubber bushing that attached to it, to make it so it doesnt tq much from the engine. I suppose and I lost that... And I also lost the directions. I remember there being something about coolant that needed to be drained to do it or something. I dont remember too much. But I know the basics on how to install it and such, like the bumper or the wheel well, just I am very stumped on where to get these small parts and about those directions. IF anyone has some input. It is very welcome here! Thanks. ;D
