A few Qs.

I detailed the car today and have a few questions.

1. I got leather treatment in the seat perferations, so basically they are little pink dots, how should I get the extra that got in there out? I was thinking a shop vac would clear the holes.

2. My dad says the steering wheel is very hard to grip now, after the leather treatment. How long does it take for that stuff to work its way in(I used mcguires)

3. The guy at autozone gave me armor all protectant for the vinyl, it is all shiny now, does it work its way in, does the vinyl become less slippery?

4. Is there any "new car" scent spray or freshener on the market that actually smells like new car?

5. Where can I get those headlight rock guard thingies, and are they good?

Thanks everyone, I am really enjoying this car.

if shop vac isnt strong enuf, you can use a toothpick and get it out that way.

the conditioner will wear off after a couple of days..i use the same thing.

i personally dont liek the shine all over the interior, i clean it with cleaning wipes...(it doesnt have a shine to it)

isnt the car brand new? if so, you really dont need air fresheners, my car is over 1yr old, and it smells like i got it yesterday...leather smell is still there, you jsut have to condition it once in a while for the smell to come out. that new car smell is suppose to be back for your health though.

you can get the headlight film from rockblocker in the sponsored sale section

When I first put the mcguires in it really reaked, so the new car smell will return? I didn't intend to make it shiny, I thought it was just a matte protective coat.

Definitely stop using the silicone based junk (like Slimeorall) as soon as possible. The Aerospace stuff is much better - it won't cause that pasty white look plastic gets over time with use of silicone.

i use meguiars as well for the leather. the best thing to do after applying it is to get a clean cotton cloth (a microfiber works much better) and use it to dry the seats completely and wipe away any excess product. this will work the conditioner into the leather, removing any dirt at the same time, and will give your leather that nice matte finish. as for the vinyls, use 303 protectant, especially on the dash it will reduce much glare

I used meguiars on my leather last week and I was pretty impressed with how it turned out.

CrazyMJB, stay away from the Armor All. All it really does is leave a glossy, unwanted, cheesy look! Whenever I get dust on the dash, I just wipe it off with a soft cloth. I don't drive it everyday and the car is kept in the garage so I don't worry about my dash too much. Try not to go overboard and remember, its just a car!!

1) After a little while, the leather treatment in the preforations should just evaporate, no need to panic.

2) It depends on how much you used.

3)The armoral protectant sucks, I wouldn't use it. It just makes your dash shiny, it does tend to dry out the dash as well, causing pre-mature cracking. I would just use the armoral cleaning wipes. (In the purple tube) and just clean your dash with that.

4) no

5) these?:

One way to help prevent getting too much leather treatment on the seats (and in the perforations) is to spray it onto your cloth first then wipe it on. Don't spray it directly onto the seats.

If you want tips on detailing technique and products to use, try looking through the forums at www.autopia.com. There's a ton of information and the people there are really helpful!

Bro, youve been on this board for not too long but have a huge amount of posts. glad to see that you guys finally got the car... but those are things that you shoudl not have done yet.

car ist oo brand new. don't need to do that.

its been said numerous times (just like it did a few posts up) that you should not use armor all... it messes up your interior. it soaks in and later on when it dries, its more prone to cracking.

NEVER put something like that on your steering wheel, it makes it slippery..... not worth the danerous problems that can obviously occur.

using a liquid leather treatment will prevent buildup in the holes.

dont use a "new car smell" dont add any scent to he car like that.

as far as 3M clear protection, have a professional install it.

to be honest, you should not be touching the car and doing things like that yet. (except for the 3M protective)

I'll be straight up with you. With all of your posts and technical items you have discussed in the past, I am surprised that you did not take the time to look up those things that you did to the car. If I was your dad, I wouldn't let you touch the car

Crazy - I agree w/Aye that you pobably jumped the gun a bit. I doubt I'll touch anything in my interior for at least a year - if ever (other then vacuum and a wet rag). I could see cleaning the seats with a leather cleaner if they get dirty. Detailed interiors smell bad and look bad (greasy, smudgly... blah!)

Just take a few towels, water them down abd then wipe off all to goop that you used. Then use a dry towel to dry things off. Be sure to clean off that steering wheel - it's dangerous.

I jumped the gun on the inside, the outside was covered with dirt, and had those things that looked like scratches that were from the white protective shrink wrap they put on. THe outside is perfect after the waxing etc. And the Bra was put on by a pro, and I plan on taking the car to the dealer to have the headlight guards put on after I order the guards. I am gonna wipe down the interior tommrow. The autozone loser told me armorall protectant was the best, and just ignored me when I asked for AS303, which I will get asap. I applied the leather treatment to a cloth first, but it still got down into the seats, although was mostly gone this morning.

DON'T ever use Armorall...it will eventually ruin the plastic material in your car. I'm suprized that company is still in business.
If you must use something that has a "new car" smell, Griots Garage sells a product that smells exactly like leather. It's a spray and only lasts a few days, but it smells just like leather. It's the only thing I'd ever use in a new car..and sparingly at that.
The reason you got stuff in the leather holes is because you used too much product. Spray it on a towel, let it absorb into the cotton, then start applying it on the area of the seat without the holes, then move on to the area that has the holes. That should prevent the stuff from getting into the holes and clogging them up. Good Luck with the new car. You've been really into Acura's so I hope you enjoy the car. I've had mine for over a year with absolutely no problems. It's one great car!!

Lexol "VinylX" is also a great choice for the dash and they sell a good leather conditioner. That brand is a bit easier to find than 303.

Like the others said - I am VERY surprised - shame shame. Anyway - live and learn. Unless you smoke in the car or you do not shower often - you do not need new car scent - mine is over a year old, 23k miles and it still smells good when you open the door. Never put anything on the steering wheel. Armor All is crap. 'nuff said.

I use Lexol leather conditioner - works great - none of this junk in the holes etc. I like the smell too. 303 on the dash - hope yours does not fade like several of ours.

Enjoy the ride....

Armorall on the sterring wheel reminds me of some guy on another forum who posted he had totaled his car... and he said something like:

Beware, I put tire shine on the treads of my tires and I got into an accident and totaled my car... the manufacturer does not put a warning on it... Do not use this product on the treads of your tires...

Oh so funny. he got owned for like, 30 pages.... I wish I could find a link.
