HCV cable

So are you actually able to move the cable in and out when its not connected to the HCV? Nobody has said if thats possible.

Need some advice on the heater control valve reinstallation process.

My understanding is that you want to install the cable with the valve in the closed position (12 o'clock position). When I try to secure the cable in this position, the cable clamp would clamp the metal part of the cable. I'm not sure this is correct based on how I've seen others install it on here. On the other hand when I put it in the open position (9 o'clock), I can secure the cable to the clamp at the black part of the cable as opposed to the metal part.

Here are some pictures for reference:

Figured it out with some assistance. Just had to turn the HVAC to the coldest setting and the cable adjusted enough for me to be able to clamp it correctly.

Do people still disconnect this cable and leave the valve set in the open position? I've always questioned that "fix."

Just wondering how this one has held up? I need to replace mine this week and would prefer to purchase one of these with two clicks using my prime account if its quality

The TL has been mostly a garage queen the last 2 years, but the valve is still working fine!

Sorry to dig up an old thread. Discovered by accident that hot and cold work in the open position on my 05 TL. I didn’t disconnect it left it open as it doesn’t move on its own. The valve developed a leak though so might as well try to fix it. Any downsides to leaving it open? I seem to get heat and cold just fine now. Minus the small leak of course.

I think the only downside would be it takes a little more time to bring the engine up to temperature. should not be a big deal.
