Extended Warranty: Screwed?

I currently have a 04 TL with a 72 month/100,000 mile extended warranty. I purchased the warranty for $ 1710. In hindsight, I think I got screwed. Would I be able to cancel the contract and hope to receive some portion of those $$$'s back and purchase a cheaper aftermarket plan of some type? If so, any suggestions on which plans or contracts are available? I currently have 22k miles on the car.

Check the warranty. I think you only had 30 days to cancel the contract. You could have bought the same warranty online from Curry Acura for about $1200.

also with the extended warranty don't you get a refund if you do not use it? but anyways 1700 is a ripoff for the warranty.

If you sell the car you can usually get a pro-rated refund on the extended warranty, but i don't think you can cancel it outright. Call Honda-Care.

If it is written by Honda Motor Co. then it can always be cancelled without any problems. You will be charged pro-rated. However, once cancelled you cannot buy from the same underwritter. In this case Honda. You can buy any other after market one but I'll be more confortable with Honda/Acura.

I just cancelled the one the 03' TL we traded in. We bought the 03' from a different dealer over a hundred miles away, and got a 3rd party warranty.

When we cancelled it, we didn't need to send them anything showing we sold the car. All they needed was the original warranty contract, and a signed/dated/notorized odometer reading.

When I bought my Infiniti, (may be different from Acura), they said if you don't purchase the new vehicle extended warranty, it is cheaper to buy the used car extended warranty, which takes effect when the manufacturer's warranty expires.

It was almost the same coverage. I think the only difference was the new car extended warranty gave extra perks, like rental/travel reimbursements for non-warranty repairs, etc.

I don't know if Acura will let you buy a used car extended warranty for your new car, right before the manufacturer warranty expires, like Infiniti does, so when I got my wife's 05' TL (just this week ), we got the acura extended care warranty for like 1300 or something like that.

Did you finance through a credit union? The credit union we financed through offers their own extended warranty, that when we compared, offered all the same things as the Acura one, for $250 cheaper. We were going to go with that, but than Acura said they would match the price, so we stuck with them...

Yes - you can cancel it and get a pro-rated refund. I did on my TSX before I got rid of it.
