Extended warranty

I have an 07 TLS 6mt and from my understanding the bumper to bumper is up at 4/50k and the engine and tranny are 6/60k. I found an extended warranty for another 4/50k w. a 100 deductible for about 1200 bucks. Is it worth the money to extend the warranty? What are some of the common problems that occur from 50k and on? I plan on keeping the car for at least a few more years/30k miles. Any input would be appreciated!

If one has the money available I'd always pick up an extended warranty, but make certain as to what the warranty covers and the reputation of the carrier. There has been only one vehicle that I've purchased and haven't used the extended warranty....the TL. The company is betting you won't use the policy and you're betting you will, but coverage is the important ingredient. Also, some carriers won't allow work to be performed unless a rep from the co. does an inspection and then authorizes the repair.

I don't believe in them, personal preference really.

EDIT: the only out of warranty repair I had to do was replace my starter. I think it was around $250 total. I'm at 95k miles now. I gambled that my Honda product would be ok up to 100k miles without purchasing an extended warranty. Hopefully, I don't need anything major in the next 5k miles- I'm confident I wont.

I bought the extended Acura warranty for my 2004 TL/5AT/Navi just before the 50K expiration and am just running out now at 98K. My experience:

I had the torque converter replaced at 55K due to the infamous shudder. That was covered under the 70K power train warranty

My navigation went into a constant reboot mode around 75K. The extended paid for that, but the repair cost ($600) was less than the extended warranty ($1100).

I bought the car new and took good care of it (thanks in great part to the 3GE team on Acuarzine). I would not buy the extended again given the same circumstances.

Thanks for the input guys. I would go with the acuracare warranty so I know its reputable. I think its worth the piece of mind knowing that ill never incur a major expense but at the same time, it doesn't seem like there are many common issues with the TLS 6mt. With that said, I'm a spirited driver, been through 2 clutches at 50k so I may have a higher chance of breaking other parts that would not necessarily break for the average owner/driver. Im on the fence right now....more input would be appreciated!

Do a search and you could spend most of the day reading about the pros and cons of purchaseing the warranty. To each their own, you've got to make the decision.

If a major component fails after you drive the car into the ground, even with the Acura Care Care warranty they may refuse to honor the policy because of abuse. You'll always find people that have never needed the warranty and others also were glad they had made the purchase, it's a gamble. When the daughter purchased her Maxima (23k miles) she bought the extended warranty and the repairs barely cover the cost of the warranty, but at least there was no money out of her pockets. Sunroof motor, pw motor passenger side, pw switch drivers side.
Good luck

Personally, I'd keep the $$ in my pocket. I just rolled over 100k and I have only had to replace a few parts.

Keep your money i had the exteneded warranty and it wasnt bad, but keep that 1000+ and spend it on repairs . Our cars are pretty reliable.

I have the acuracare extended warranty on my 06 and have had to use it only a couple times at this point. 68k Would have spent half the cost of the warranty at this point. I am thinking that I will probably break even when its all said and done. Its great peace of mind knowing that the car is still under warranty and its about time for some possible expensive things to go out. its a coin toss.

The other option is to just take the money that you would spend on the extended warranty and invest it yourself in a your own warranty repair fund and just let it increase in value and use it as needed. That way you have some dollars set aside for repairs and if you dont need it you have it in your own account to do so as you see fit. The only issue is if there is something really major thats needed that you wont have the cash to cover it. its insurance, its all how much risk you wanna take

I do think the warranty cost they are quoting you are high. you can shop on line for that yourself.

It also depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. Some folks move on after a few years and others like myself keep it for the long run. I went ahead and purchased the Curry Acuracare extended warranty online and am covered until 105k miles or 2016.
