Expected brake life for '08 Type S
Recently had my 08 Type S serviced at 16K miles and was told that I will need new front brake pads shortly. Seems early to me. I don't drive that much in city traffic with lots of stop and go??
Has there been a change in the composition of the newer brake pads and/or the rotor???
Previously had an 03 Type S and got a lot longer life on pads.
Thanks,
AZbikerjoe

MY KBP IS BTR THN URS...
I got around 30000 miles out of mine. The dealer will most likely tell you will need rotors and pads, to the tune of 900.00 bucks. I did rotora's rotors and pads for 400.00.

Good to know guys. I've got 25,000 on my Type S and I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do.

When I traded my 08 TL-S in, it was due for pads. I think I had about 37K at the time. I planned on replacing them with the Duralast ceramic pads for $60.00 at Autozone. But traded the car in before I did.

Completely depends on you commute / type of driving you do and how hard you push your car. I had an 04 6MT with the Brembos and went 47K without touching the brake pads. I traded the 04 for a used 08 TL-S and have only added about 1K on the odometer totaling out at 14.5K so far with no issues. Prior to my 04 TL, I drove a 94 Accord and sold it with 97K on the odometer and never replaced brake pads. Don't get me wrong, I would say I'm a spirited driver, but I only have a 12 mile commute round trip.

I had an '06 6MT and changed out the pads at 33k miles, 50/50 local/hwy. I replaced rotors and pads at 55k miles with oem brembo... rears were still going strong. Just traded in the '06 6MT for an '08 S auto with 17k miles and the breaks still bite pretty hard when called upon, no screeching.

If you drive spirited, don't expect them to last very long. That is the downside to Brembo, they stop very well, but the durability sucks.
Do the replacement yourself, it's very easy. If you aren't changing the rotors, its just 2 pins that hold the pads in. It will take you longer to get the car in the air and on jackstands than it will to actually replace the pads.
