Exhaust Ideas

Hey Guys-
I'm a new 05 TL owner and I'm starting my mod process and I would like suggestion on exhaust.

What suggestions do you'll have and does anyone have any sound clips?

Thanks!

Check the sticky thread with the Comptech catback sound clip. That is the only full out-the-box catback exhaust out there. There are pics of a Mugen exhaust but no other information.

Some people have just changed the mufflers to Magnaflows, or played around with taking out one or more resonators.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I like the looks of the comptech system except for the tips dont line up with the bumper (personal opinion on this). I swapped the two rear mufflers for small magnaflow mufflers, have cut out the front resonator and replaced it with a magnaflow one and for a couple weeks left the middle muffler on. Just recently (this past week) I cut out the mid muffler and welded in a straight pipe. My tone sound pretty much the same as the comptech one. I am trying to get a good quality sound clip up but am having some problems. To retain the stock look I cut the tips off of the OEM system and welded them to the new mufflers.
Opting for the comptech system gives you only one option for the sound unless you want to go through the process of either removing or adding another SS resonator and then tig welding (so no rust) it on there. I gave myself a little versatility because I was not sure how the exhaust was going to sound. The system you choose depends greatly on what you are looking for (ie tone, interior resonance, pitch, etc).

The G35c actually has 1 muffler with 2 exit points... so it looks like it has 2 mufflers, but it actually has 1... the 350Z is the same way...

In contrast, the TL has 2 mufflers each with 1 exit point

Unless you drop everything between the intake and exhaust tips (including motor) from the G, your TL won't sound like one...The internals of a motor play a HUGE part in this, perhaps more than mufflers. Swapping out the mufflers will absolutely not give you the sound of a G35. Sorry I wish the TL was a little more throaty as well.

For the rear mufflers I used 11375 (you can get them in stainless) and just a regular 4" round magnaflow resonator for replacing the front one. I left the midmufler alone originally, I was going to put in a 6" round magnaflow but instead just welded in a straight pipe.
