Hey guys... explain how this can happen? From the start I railed a Pontiac GTO E57. I have a 5AT TL. The GTO's have like 400 HP.... I creamed him... he even gave me a thumbs up and at the next light congratulated me... whats up with that? was he a crappy driver or what? Its a 33k car... and he had to be 35+ so he should have had SOME experience... he also had a MT. What am I missing here? I had him by like 1 car length.

I only raced off the line because i didnt really look at the car... i thought it was a G6... I eat those for breakfast

Those cars are fast... much faster....

lol i figured he may have been screwing with me, but then he should have gotten an academy award with the way he was acting lol.... maybe it was a new car that wasnt broken in yet, but still 400 HP .... i mean, to my knowledge theres not another E57 other THAN a GTO right? Like I said, I thought it was a G6, but when i got next to him on the right side it said E57.... so idk

oh well... my girlfriend, who was with me (dosent know her steering wheel from a lugnut) thought i did good LOL

Errr.... what the hell is a GTO E57? I've never heard of it before. Maybe you mean 5.7L? In that case it was a 2004 GTO with an LS1 which puts out 350 HP. Not bad still... either he was a bad driver or didn't take things too seriously. Did his car have hood scoops and dual exhaust (not dual-tipped)?

 

i definately agree with everyone else here, there is no way a 05tl AT will beat a GTO specially not off the line. If it was a 5.7L it only has 350hp and it was probably and 02-04 like the person above me mentioned but thats still enough to beat a TL off the line, i think those do 0-60 in 5.3sec . But if indeed it was a 05-06 6.0 with the hood scoops then there is no way in hell you would have or could have won those are pushin 400hp and are fast as hell, 0-60 in 4.8 and there in the same league as the M3, STI,and the EVo, maybe he didnt you guys were racing? and thought your car sounded pretty nice and gave you the thumbs up? anyways i dont really know but then again it might be possible ive seen a video on youtube of a Mini cooper S beating a GTO from a dig ( the 5.7 03 model) but i dont kno the mods of the cooper i just know that stock they run 7.7 to 60. anyways i have posted a thread on the GTO's maybe you should read it and there is also the one with the 07 TL-S against a GTO here ya go!

i dont think it had hood scoops and idk about the dual exhaust. i know theres know way i could have beat him, but for some reason i did, he wasnt letting up either. 0-60 and we both slowed down (I did first) at about 65.... it was weird. I threw it in MT and had VSA off, but that still wouldnt make a difference... haha maybe he was just being a nice guy and let me win because i had a girl in my car LOL i really dont know.

 

i guess when you think about it even the tortoise beat the hare in a race. GooD KiiL!!

 

Maybe his air filter was getting all plugged up.

Maybe some other parts of his engine are wearing out..

Or like you said he was being plain nice to you.

He simply could have been a bad driver or was just getting used to the car. The other day I was at a stop light next to an sti and I asked the driver to do a run with me. I said I was interested in seeing how bad his car could kill mine. Sure enough he only pulled a half length on me from 10-100. I talked to the guy at the next light and he told me he was still getting used to his car, but really he just needs some driving lessons.
