Engine Tone after a few thousand miles

Is it me or does the engine and exhaust note get louder the longer you own your car. I have a 6MT and when I open her up the engine note sounds great. I rememeber months back I could not even hear the engine. Is this normal.....I like it.///

I may have illusion, too. It's getting louder in any occassions. Since I revved it up at 800 miles, everything is getting louder... but everything seems as perfect as before (excepts the growing rattles/squeaks).

I'd agree. With 3,000 miles on the car it is clearly getting louder. The sound is not a problem. I just hope it transforms into a nice low growl.

Quieter

Acyually, I've noticed the opposite after 4,000 miles. Getting silky quiet.

I like the low growl at start-up... I definitely did not have that in my stock TL-S...

I noticed the same thing with all the new cars I had. I think it's because when you first get the car you drive it slowly. Than after break in you start to drive faster and you would rev the engine higher.

I believe that the muffler system also deteriorates over time, letting more sound through.

Getting louder

Yes, I think it is getting louder, definitely.

And it is not because I'm running the car at higher rpms.

The car engine is just not as quiet as when I first bought it [not a huge difference, but it is trivially easy to hear it now and figure out the gearing by engine noise. When I first bought the car, it was difficult to hear the engine].

Went to the dealer, but all they said was that it is within "tolerence".

We need an update from flnsx. He takes his 5AT to Moroso Speedway on the weekends. Remember he got disappointing times initially with about 25 miles on the car?? Then, as it loosened up, his times were MUCH lower.

This could also be due to a lot of other things though, like outside temperature, humidity, driver experience, tire wear..etc. Not saying that it is, but it's possible a combination of engine break-in as well as some of the above.

It is just getting a bit louder of a growl which is nice. It is not soft like it use to be. Dont get me wrong I love it, I actually want it to be a bit louder....
