Engine Smell in Car - NOT A/C ISSUE

Well lately I've been noticing something and maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'm checking just incase. So just for example sakes all point out one case where the smell would be present. So I drive to school and park about 7:35 AM, get in my car to leave about 2:35. The thing I have been noticing is that the car smells like hmm I don't really know how to describe maybe slightly burned tires or an over-worked engine, can't really explain. The only reason I worry about this is because this has never been an issue before. I don't push my car too hard on a regular basis and when I drove my car this morning, the smell wasn't there. However, after driving to speed concept, I got back in my car around 45 - 60 minutes later and the smell was there. Is this anything I should be worrying about?

Thanks,

DK

it isn't on, i don't even use it. also, if it was, the car has a warning like the seatbelt warning that it is on.

Do you use SS? I had a similar experience when I could smell the engine from the inside but only when I would use SS. It was around 1500 miles and it went away after a week.

This is almost always crud burning out of the catalytic converter - esp when high sulfur fuels have been run through, as some off-brand convenience stores sometimes sell.

You could check to see if something has fallen or blown onto part of the exhaust. I had a smell once that turned out to be a plastic shopping bag that had blown on the cat hsield, and would bubble up when things got hot.

I'm not having the problem anymore, probably was something on the exhaust.

burning smell is pretty common - I've had it on other cars (maybe on the TL for a couple hundred miles) and is most common on new cars (where plastic or other coating burns off).

I wouldn't be concerned.

Did you have rustproofing? If so some could have dripped on the converter.
