Engine builder in north-East?

Hey boys and girls....I am looking for a builder here in the north-east (specifically NH), for my project. I am looking for a replacement J35A, and need someone to build it before installing it in my '07 S type. Long term plan is to have a spare motor (transmission also?) ready to swap out every 200K miles or so. Of course slight performance mods might be nice-but really I am looking for reliability as it is my daily. Thanks in advance for any leads!!

One thing to be very careful with is which J35A you buy. For your car you should be looking for a J35A8.

LOL, I know @Gumby309 is an advocate for the J37, but not everybody is; especially those with oil control issues.

The torque and power up top sells it for me!! Shes pulls alot harder. So far with 5w-40 castrol or shell rotella she burned a half a quart for every 3k miles. Not bad for something i was beating on to redline everywhere. Hahaha. Had 15k miles on the build before i sold it.

Thanks for the info...

SO...I appreciate the input-but I will stay with the J35A8....reliability is really the priority for this vehicle. Between my 1985 Supra, and '68 GTO, I have enough toys-this car (2007 Acura TL-S) is really intended as daily driver duty. So.....kinda same question-who in the North East do we trust for a re-build/re-install?

So, the guy I use for my 2006 TL owns a couple of shops, one in Hooksett, and a second smaller shop in Manchester; he used to be a chief technician for an Acura dealership. PM me and I'll send you the contact info. That said, I haven't seen them do any engine builds, so if you're looking for go-fast goodies and such, you might need a different shop.

Sounds like hes looking for a stock swap with boltons probably. Any shop can do it. Its just replacing the engine like any other car. Unless you decide to build the heads. But even that isnt that complicated. As for j37 not being reliable, not too sure about that yet from my own personal experience. Ive replaced more j35 motors than i have j37.

And from the OPs intent...I would put more focus on the transmission than the engine....unless you swap engines vs doing the 105k maintenance with the engine in the car. These engines should easily exceed 200k miles when not abused and properly maintained. I would generally have more concern about the trans failing than the engine...although the later years don't seem to be as likely to die an early death. The biggest issue I see with post 200k miles is going to be leaking seals and worn suspension components.

I beat and maintenance all my tls.. ive yet to blow a motor on any of them!! Ua6 auto trans not good!! But the ua7 07-08 seem solid. Havent had to replace one yet. 6spd is the way to go of course. But for the motors, all jseries motor last if you do maintenance on time. I drive hard on all of them and they all last. Cl tl mdx accord oddysey rl they all can hit 200k easy with maintenance

Is the oil consumption issue for all J37s ? I thought it was only on the J37s with the dual vtec. I was planning to go for the J37a1 from the MDX to attempt to avoid the oil issues.

Check around, I know there are more than a few threads (here and on other sites) from J37A1 users with oil issues.

Hmmm, per my information, the J35A8 uses cast-iron cylinder liners; the J37A1 uses aluminum cylinder liners. Do you have information which says otherwise?

Interesting; I've searched the internet several times and cannot come up with anything which confirms that; everything I've found says all vintages of the J37A1 have aluminum liners.
