Engine bay caught fire......

Ok so i havent been on here for the past few weeks since this happened and to be honnest i still dont know what caused this... the only bad thing is that i dont have full insurance on the car since i barelly drive the car .

now all i have left is to fix the car out of pocket, but thats not the bad part, down hear i cant find any parts for this car since the car is not that common like most cars (remember that i live in DR).The fire from the look of things started from behind the engine...we have determained that the cause was not the audio system and there were no cables running thru the back of the engine except the factory wire harnest...

so here are the pics... sorry for the ip4 pics

As you can see here the car was just affected in the engine bay nothing estetic was damaged from the outside except the paint ..

this is the interior part where the dash goes

At this point im just trying to find parts so i can rebuild and just trade up but i really cant find a car that will top off the tl. The only thing that i have in mind is one of the newer camrys SE...

Did you have the power steering hose recall performed?

I spy custom accord fogs. Perhaps a electrical short somewhere.

sorry to hear, good luck.

Down hear they dont do recalls since you really dont have an acura dealer down here...these cars are brought from the states and sold at small dealerships

like i said i dont really know but from the looks of it it was more of a mechanical than electrical problem

cause before we started taking out the melted parts we started checkin and all the wires were melted from the plastic covering but none of the cables were stuck together like when you get a short circuit....plus the front of the engine bay is where i have most of my wiring done from the fogs and audio system and all of that was intact.

even the fuse from the audio system was intact

where's your battery? was it relocated and was it professionally done? that would be my suspect in causing a possible electric-related fire.

Mechanical doesn't seem likely if the car was parked with the motor off.

batterys were not the cause of this since the both battery were tested and none of them had been discharged or drained

i call it mechanical because we ruled out and short circuit from any wires but like i said we cant really tell anymore since everything was consumed by the fire

Man that sucks.

My brother's 350Z had the same problem except they didn't notice till like 45 minutes or longer and it burned to the ground.

He says maybe it was a bulb short circuit or whatever a while back and that what could've caused an electrical issue.

Since I was just in the Dominican Republic for a week & did a tour bus from Punta Cana down to Santo Domingo I can confirm there are no Acura dealerships. Strangely though while at a cigar factory I did see a TL with the TLS badging.
It appears your car had an electrical fire, an arsonist would have simply poured gas on the outside and light it, they wouldn't have bothered with opening the hood. Anyway just by looking at the photos I'd say it's not repairable. You'd have to replace nearly all the electrical wiring not to mention sensors, vacuum lines etc. Alot of work & you still have to find all of the wiring and stuff from a junkyard. Either way, I'm sorry about your car.

Hey a fellow Dominican here. What part of DR are you in? I never saw anyone ship that car over there yet, or did you just ship it from PR? Either way i blame the god dam sun. It's hot as balls over there.

I hope you get the problem fixed. I know it's a bitch to get any parts over there.

did you have a any oil leaks? I've heard oil leaking on a hot pipe can cause burning.

yup looks like power steering hose sprung a leak and fire just the reason why we have this recall.

Parked the car, no more moving air through the engine bay to help keep things cool. Heat stays in the rear cat and the overall engine bay increases in temperature. Power steering fluid was probably leaking and reached the auto-ignition point after being parked a few mins. I remember seeing a video a while back where a TL caught fire right after being parked due to the PS hose leaking.

If this is true, this just proves how important it is to stay on top of things with your car and make sure recalls are taken care of.

Absolutely agree with you, how many times do we all push off getting the recalls done

I think this thread should be saved and it sent to acura! Someone has to be held liable no matter where the car is. Im sorry but I feel bad for you I cant imagine the feeling. I hope everything gets worked out and the actual cause is determined!!

If it was the PS hose that caused this I see a viable reason for Acura to cover all expenses and damages

I absolutely agree. But I'm sure that by issuing the recall, Acura dodges liability. Unfortunately, I would think that since a recall was issued and a fix offered, that Acura has pretty much cleared themselves. Not to mention the fact that there's surely a gaggle of high-paid ****head lawyers waiting in the wings for exactly this type of situation. Maybe Acura will surprise me and hook him up like he deserves. But I doubt it

Good luck on the fix man, if it's possible. I'd be pretty devastated.

I dont think Acura will cover it. he didnt have the recall done which likely resulted in the engine fire. it sucks but it looks like he has to fork out the $ for this.
