East coast hurricaner's...plans for the TL?
just wanted to see what everyone on the east coast has been doing to protect their TL/property from inbound hurricane irene.
my area is prone to flooding, so i've put the TL in the garage and stacked sandbags on both sides of the door.
so what steps have you all taken? for both your car and property?
hopefully this thing won't be anything major!

I live in a cliff in Bergen county but I am right next to NYC, you can see the skyline from my town since the city is only 5 miles out. My car will remain in my driveway without the cover on since winds at 10-15mph blows it off anyway.. I feel bad for those living down in Edgewater, since they are right on the hudson river...

i gave much thought to what i would do with the TL in prep for the storm. since i'm west of 95 and the winds won't be too crazy as they would be in say baltimore and the beaches...DC is just outside the mess of the bulk of irene.
risk taker...we dont' have water issues, just trees. so...the TL is parked under its secured cover in the driveway (where i park its not exactly in an open area to get slammed with wind, its kind of enclosed by the houses and the trees). the cover holds up pretty well in wind (as was the case earlier this year) and heavy rain (in recent downpours). plus a wet cover is harder to blow off. hoping for light winds and nice trees. stupid neighbors....![Tomato](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tomato.gif)
funny the stepchild, mdx...not that concerned about...but still worried.
be safe out there everyone, esp those in the direct path of this beast.

We just had our driveway refinished yesterday, so with the combo of not being able to park in it and the storm, the TL is in the garage for the weekend. Where I am in NY, we only have a tropical storm warning (mountains between NYC and my area are a buffer) so I'm really not too worried about it.

my neighborhood is full of trees. unfortunately, my tl will be sitting outside during the storm since we have no garage.. im praying the tree branches don't fall on my car. last year a huge branch fell off during a storm and luckily the fence gate stopped it from hitting my car. otherwise my roof would have been sunken in

its staying outside. I had plans on moving it to higher ground, but then I realized it wouldn't be covered under homeowners if I did that. Now I just gotta hope!

I live in Chesapeake, VA. My car will be staying outside of my apartment sadly, I think my car would be alright. I was seriously thinking of taking it to a free parking garage and getting a taxi home lol. I'm like 15 miles from the coast, but so far just lots of rain, still waiting for the main part of the hurricane and the winds that come with it. GL with everyone's TL's hopefully they all come out safe, as well as our families.

In my driveway, but I plan to drive it around all night just to see the sights!
Not.
I just saw some idiot in VA Beach running around behind the Weather Channel reporter in a bathing suit drop his pants and wave his penis on live TV! Boy, what fun!

i just moved away from downtown jersey city. i think my old apartment (it was ground level) would have been a mandatory evacuation; luckily we moved about 20 miles inland and our new apt has a huge parking garage. my TL is inside on the 2nd level & the CL is on the first level of the garage. no worries!

^^my street looks kind of like that just with a few more cars street parked, since no one around here uses their one car garage for a car except us (the TL does not get the luxury...its a tight turn and squeeze on a downward slope to get in there). sun's out now with a few gusts blowing through. all cars accounted for.

I had the car in targets parking lot in bound brook ,nj because my street is flooded. I left it over there for a day but since wind was strong and was pushing shopping carts everywhere I went today to take it with me into the place I am staying. This target is located on a small hill so it was safe from the water but not from trees, electric post, or shopping carts lol. I'll post pic soon to show you guys some cars that were left on the lower parking lot next to the train station that were cover with water. I guess their owners were in ny and were not able to get back on Sunday since the subway was cancelled or any other public transport. It was like 5 cars and a garbage truck covered in water. In the last shot is visible just 1 car and the truck. I feel sorry for the owners.

It looked pretty bad on the news, but I think NC got hit the hardest and NJ next. I was in Niagra / Buffalo shopping and it was Chicago city windy

Keep Right Except to Pass
The TL stayed in the garage. Our driveway slopes gently downhill, so flooding wasn't a worry.
The RSX was parked around the corner rather than in the driveway in order to avoid the risk of the neighbors' Bradford pear falling over (it didn't, but someone else's up the street did—at least it fell into the street, not into their house). Did not put the car cover on the RSX. No damage.
The RX-7 was parked directly behind the RSX and I did put the cover on there with four spring-loaded clamps to clamp the cover to the car. Worked fine—cover is still in place as I type this on a sunny Monday morning. The car is 23 years old and has a couple of rips starting to form in the convertible top, so the cover was important.
On the whole our neighborhood was lucky, very few trees down, no power failures, and no roof damage that I could see. I was surprised at how many people left cars in their driveways, though. To me one of the first rules of thumb when that sort of storm is coming is to park away from trees if possible. That's especially true if you have a Bradford pear out front that's about 20 years old (describes quite a few trees in our neighborhood). The trees get way too big for their trunks and are highly susceptible to splitting in half during high winds.
