Queen - The Game, sounds great. Of course if you don't like Queen...

Brian Wilson - Imagination. Had the CD version of this disc. Heard things on the DVD-A that I never heard on the cd

I have Queen- A night at the Opera

It's a gold Cd. Does it sound good because they used quadrophonics back in the 70's ?

I wonder if Pink Floyd would sound good as well?

Are you referring to Brian Wilson of the Beach boys?

Our dealer played a DVD-A demo disc for us yesterday. I don't think this was the TL demo disc. I think the dealer said he got this demo from a retailer that has been installing DVD-A systems in homes. Anyway, one of the short clips on it was the start of Riders on the Storm by the Doors. It sounded amazing. If you remember, the song starts out with a rain storm. If you were blindfolded you'd swear you're in the middle of a real storm.

Another good sounding heavy rock DVD is Deep Purple's "Machine Head" with "Smoke on the Water". Eagles "Hotel California" is also good.

I am with Jon - all the R.E.M.'s They are re-releasing their whole catalog in DVD-A format. Automatic has the most effects. Document is my favorite album of all time. Reveal is OK. Best of should be great if it ever gets released. Supposed to come out last week with the other formats. No one seems to know what gives.

Also, I noticed that there is a new Zepplin 2 DVD-A set. Pricey, but probably worth it.

I got the Led Zepplin DVD "How the West Was Won". It is worth it, but it is a live album so do expect audience noice. If you like
Led Zepplin get it.

Queen-Night at the Opera

And if you're a new wave, new jazz techno, or just plain old music freak. Chek out ...

Tipper-Surrounded

Reviewers are raving about this disc. And since buying it, I can atest to how fantastic the little things he does with all 5.1 channels is.

The Police have a Greatest Hits package as well, It sounds very good.

The November issue of Stereophile Guide to Home Theater had an article that recommended a handful of DVD-Audio titles. The selections were based more on musical substance than sound quality, but I'm certain they are all quite impressive from a technical (engineering) standpoint.

Fleetwood Mac - Live at the BBC
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (one of my all time faves)
Miles Davis - Tutu
Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now
Steely Dan - Everything Must Go
Brian Bromberg - Jaco
Yes - Fragile (another one of my faves)
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
Iggy Pop - From the Front Row ... LIVE!

The article does give a warning that some DVD-Audio discs will not begin playing unless you highlight "Play" in the onscreen menu and then hit Enter. Such a disc would obviously cause problems for someone using a standalone player in their car. I'm assuming you can't view the menus on the Navi screen, but I could be wrong.

Of those above, I have Pet Sounds, Two Against Nature (another Steely Dan), and Fragile. Steely Dan is a very clean sound with some good surround effects without going overboard. Elliot Sheiner did the mix and probably Everything Must Go as well. He has his name on this stereo (ELS).

Fragile is good two.

If you like the Beach Boys get it, but the mix was done by Brian Wilson himself and he got carried away on the surround remix and could have utilized the center and subwoofer more on other songs. A few songs are done well though.

Eagles "Hotel California" is excellent and so is Sting's "Brand New Day". The Door's LA woman definitely has some rough edges but "Riders on the Storm" sounds like it was recorded this year- incredibly life-like.
