Dropped By The Dealer Today...

Went by David McDavid Acura of Plano, TX for service, and my service advisor told me, "oh if you're wondering what your car runs the 1/4 mile in, it's the mid-14 range... some guy came in and apparently took the TL loaner to Ennis and ran the car 14 times." Apparently McDavid has been looking into the guy abusing the loaners far more than any of us would normally do.. he took off about 5,000 miles of treadwear on one of their car's tires once, then when they videotaped him on the track running the loaner 14 times, the service manager told him they'd never let him take a loaner from McDavid again... crazy stuff.

Thats kind of funny, totally wrong (and sucks that it happened to a dealer with a good reputation), but funny.

negative. one guy is not going to make a dealer turn bad and if one guy does, the dealer sux ass anyway. i'm sorry but it's just plain funny. he took a car that was not his and ran that beotch just like anyone would with a rental car from avis or enteprise.

Food of Thought: That abused car is going to be sold as a "demo" one day which someone will buy and then come here on AZ and bitch the shit out of how junk his TL is and how bad Acuras are and how shitty their dealer service and quality is.....

so twigglius, I agree with everyone here...if someone is that curious on the 1/4 mile times...they should fu**ing do it on their own car an not some one elses or loaners...

But it wasnt an avis or enterprise rental. He took advantage of the dealer. You would be singing a different tune if they didnt catch it and you turn in that car next time and they notice the tire wear then or the car shits the bed with you in it and they try to blame you.

Im sorry but I see nothing funny about this and I think that anybody that condones this action doesnt belong on this forum. The dealer, especially this one, does not deserve this kind of treatment.

I agree with trance. A rental you pay for usage. The loaners are a perk, a benefit that the dealer provides customers at considerable cost. This sortof behavior could lead to either crappier loaners, or, more likely, the imposition of limitations on loaners for everybody - i.e. mileage and/or wear/tear restrictions

This one's going nowhere fast...

Iceman, the next time you're at the dealer, see if you can find out what happened to the guy...hopefully they get something out of him...

This is the same theme... but a bit different...

I got this from a cop friend... seems a guy went into a Mercedes or BMW (can not remember) dealership and they let his 'test drive' a car without anyone going with him.... he kept it for three months!!! They could not find him or the car, reported it to the police etc...

The kicker is that they could not prosecute as he 'was on a test drive' and did not steal the car!!!

Talk about having cajones..

The next time I go in (probably around July if nothing comes up) I'll certainly ask if they took any legal or civil action against the guy. From what I took out of the conversation, they just left the matter closed, as he would not be able to take a loaner from them ever again.

I agree with Ethan and the other guys, this guy totally abused the dealer. A coworker of mine has a Z, and every single time she has taken her's in for service, nissan has given her a Dodge Stratus loaner. At least our dealers supply us with one of their own fleet, whether it is the RSX, TSX, TL, or MDX.

meh. Acura Dealerships are crap anyway. They wanted $2740 for just the installation of my S/C. Said they will need 3 days to finish the job at $90/hr. and because I am friends with one of the service tech, they'll discount me $500...........
Dealerships are a joke, I went in for an alignment because it was slightly pulling left when I was driving. I dropped it off 7am in the morning and picked up at 5pm. Was told nothing wrong so they didn't do anything..........

The guy abused the dealership, but how many times the dealership abuses us. Meh, I give the guy props.

There is mileage restrictions and some dealers dont even offer loaners. Criswell where I bought mine, doesnt do loaners. Thats why I get my service done at Rosenthal

But I agree...dont abuse the loaner program. They are doing you a FAVOR and they dont have to do that.

Its like the Subway Stamp program that was cancelled because of fraud. People were copying the stamps with color copiers and using them for free subs. FUCKERS! I loved my free sub club cards!

That was called them being lazy and not wanting to sue.

They had grounds for a civil judgment AFTER the DA/SA tried him for grand theft auto and some other little shit. (settle out of court surely)

Thats a great way to look at it bro. So because you think dealerships are a joke you thinks it okay this guy took a TL and ran it 14 times on the track??

You're a class act!!

i have to admit... i may abuse my loaner from time to time, but it mostly consists of just driving it hard.... i would be surprised if DMD does not take legal action.. it just shows how 'nice' of a dealer they are... i always get grade A world class service whenever i go there

I would expect that if the dealership is going to take the time, effort and pay someone to follow the guy in order to videotape his abuse of the loaner car, that they would at minimum make him pay for a new set of tires.

I'm not agreeing what the guy did was right, far from it. However, I have no love for David McDavid (Austin), I hope everyone in service burns in hell.

No, it is called the law... just because you think it was grand theft auto does not mean it is... I do not know if they have changed the law as this was about 15 or so years ago, but back then it was not a stolen car by the definition of 'stolen'.. he was giving PERMISSION to drive the car, hence, it can not be stolen..

Now, could they have sued him for the value of the months... of course... would they have won?? Who knows.. would it have been worth the time and trouble.. probably not..

But, he could not be charged with a crime.
