The tape is very ghetto. I certainly understand the raw wood finish though, but they could at least spend 5 minutes with a spray paint can.
Those subs will have a rubber gasket that should be used between the basket and the enclosure. For horizontal mounting the better be using large winged t-nuts or bolts. They probably are using screws and pulling them in and out all of them time, punched multiple holes in the gasket so have to use tape.
