I know this topic have been discussed many times but i am still confused. My TL is now at 37000 miles. Should I replace the ATF by doing the drain/fill, Flushed method or take it to one of those shop that have a machine that pump the old oil out and new one in.

NEVER use a machine

ONLY use the drain 3-refill-drive 5 minutes- drain 3 fill--repeat till total of 9 qts

 

Why?

 

Machine flush: Because Acura/Honda says so on page 3 of THIS service bulletin.

Drain/fill: The Acura recommended 1x drain/fill procedure will only replace only 43% of the tranny fluid (3 out of 7 liters in the tranny.) The 3x drain/fill technique will replace 84% of the tranny fluid (special ed math not shown).

 

Not specific to Honda/Acura, cleaning magnets is a MUST for proper tranny maintenance to any car manufacturer. Some shops using a machine method does not remove and clean off the drain plug magnet. With the drain and fill method, cleaning the plug only takes a few extra seconds.
