AT Downshifting Problem

Have a 2006 AT TL. Sometimes it seems the tranny doesn't downshift when accelarating hard. Seems to stay on the same gear, and accelarate slowly. Is this normal? Is this a problem with the tranny or the ECU?

For example....your at 40 mph and you you put the pedal to the metal and it should shift to the lower gear for you to be able to get accelerate more quickly. Instead it slowly moves up from the low RPM range(3K). I have a 2003 Altima 3.5, and it does not have this problem. You get immediate accelaration from any speed.

Your feedback is appreciated. Just want to make sure this is not a problem with my TL only. Also have CAI which should help.

Thanks

Mine downshifts just fine...but I do note...if you are running in sport shift mode...it will NOT downshift automatically unless you stop completely at which time it will reset to 1st gear run automatically to second...and hold for your input. But...if you are in normal drive...yes...it should downshift automatically for you when you floorboard it...depending on exactly where you are speedwise in the gear.

Now...IF....your TL is new to you....it might be "learning" your driving habits. They all have a bit of a driver adjustment factor or "fuzzy logic" so to speak in that they learn your normal driving style and adjusts for it.

In SS

2->1 almost rarely works
3 -> 2/1 it won't downshift at all unless u come to near stop

if u r talking about D mode, then there's problem

i kinda feel this way with my 07 tl-s as well. from a complete stop the cars a beast but when im on the highway at lets say 65mph when i slam the pedal the car gets up there but i dont get that feeling of pushing back into the seat or that low gear torque. I guess i can aslo describe it as the op. i expected it to have a little more high end torque but i figured it was normal that it didnt. should i take it to the dealer to check this out?

Sometimes it'll just accelerate out of third gear being that if it were to downshift to 2nd at 60mph it would need to shift about a second afterward because it's near the top of 2nd. Yeah if you want to downshift on the highway into 2nd gear you'll need to be going slower than 60mph.

I'm talking about being in D mode not SS. I get this problem between 50 and 60 mph and about 80 mph when putting the pedal to the floor. Yes if it were to downshift it you probably at 5k rpm or higher but that would still be faster that accelarating more slowly from about 3k rpm.

Cuz it will not downshift if u r nearing 60MPH.

My trick if you really need power at 60 is - COMPLETELY let off gas for 0.5 seconds then command manual SS 3 -> 2. Then smash on gas again. Otherwise number will just flash and u wont get anywhere

I've done that .....but my question is...is this normal? I mean in D it should downshift to the right gear by itself.....it really feels sluggish when it doesn't. Maybe the gear spacing is too big...i'm just worried i have a problem with my tranny or ECU.

65mph is a bad speed to go WOT. Its too fast for 2nd gear and too slow for 3rd gear. My car feels really slow when i floor it from 65. You need to learn at what speeds your car can downshift and you will do much better. For example when i race my friends i either start at 30 mph, 50 mph or 75+ mph.
