Dos and Donts

Hi i recently got a 2008 tl type s from my parents. Im 17 and i just recently got my license. Im looking into modding my tls and i wanted to clarify which of theese mods are illegal in the state oof maryland because i dont want to get in trouble right when i got my license. Here are the mods if anyone lives in maryland and knows reply to this thread thanks.

Future Mods:
1.Take license plate off the front of car.
2.20% window tints on al windows except windshield
3.Atlp quad exhaust system------
4.AEM cai----------------------------

dont think numbers 3
and 4 are illegal but i just listed them.

5.Angel eyes headlights
6. Cleared front turning signals
7.HID look alike blue fog bulbs

If anyone knows that theese are illegal, also provied suggestions on what to do thanks.

20% tint will be illegal. Technically speaking when you clear your lights, not having a front orange reflector is illegal. But you won't get hassled, don't worry go for it. Angel eyes are fine too as long as you don't do red blue or green. Stick to white, or amber. All the other mods should be fine.

Do: Post in the correct forum. And Post often.

Don't: Drive like a 17-Year Old with a TL-S as his first car.

If you dont want problems with cops DONT tint and DONT get the exhaust.
Check this forum for stage 3 exhaust, its a cheap alternative to your car sounding much better. Enjoy the new car!!!

Hey, welcome and congrats on the new ride. Take good care of it and drive her gently, technically at your age you are still learning to drive. Don't get me wrong, I do not doubt you I just see a lot of teens in my area who hurt themselves in their nice new cars, most are wrx's though LOL

and BTW can your parents buy me something?? Are you an only child? Maybe they need a daughter

Post some pics of the car HURRY!!!

Wow, these new TL owners are getting younger each time I refresh the page!!!

From what I hear, my coworkers tell me that Maryland tint laws are more restrictive than Virginia so 20% will get you a ticket. You can't go lower than 35% on the rear in Va so that gives you something to measure it from. Ask your local tint shop and by law, they are supposed to know what can pass. Slip them a $20 and I bet you can get limo tint on all windows including the front if you want. When I was 17, I did stupid stuff like that.

Oh and the front tag is mandatory. Take it off and I doubt you get far past your neighborhood without getting pulled over.

you got it the other way around virginia is more restrictive. MD = 35% all around VA = 50% front, 35% back I live in both states so i know. No front tag is illegal in MD and 20% tint would also be illegal. I have been driving with no front tag for the last 4 months and no problem so far.

DMV in Virginia or MVA in Maryland wouldn't issue 2 tags if you weren't required to mount both on your vehicle but ok, if you say so........

some other tips: dont put your exact address in the navi for home. Just set it to the nearest intersection. Make sure your radio and navi code are written down somewhere for those times you lose/replace your battery. The very first mod I'd do is an upgraded 24mm progress rsb.

I would never get/install angel eyes. They WILL go bad, and your car will look ghetto, and opening your headlights more than once will likely compromise their integrity.

DO love the TL

DONT think you are invincible!! people say drive careful.. but i say, you are not invincible.. its still just a FWD acura, and its not to be doing 110+ MPH on a curve, switching lanes.... over a dozen of my peers in high school died in a car accident, b/c they're parents bought them fast or flashy rides....

im happy i had a 92 Explorer with 270,000 miles when i was 17. the car couldnt even really go over 65mph if i tried..... i think i hit 80 once, and was scared shitless in that thing !!

Lucky punk,, i had a ford courier i think it was a 81 back in 89 i think i did the head gasket 3-4 times before i got rid of it. It ran really good but since the head and block was cut down quite a bit had really high compression so head blew easily. Either way fast forward got my 08 TL S love it. Puts a smile on my face every time i see it and drive it. Just chose wisely the mods you do, don't want to attract attention to your self. I got 5% all around (except front) and got my first traffic stop luckily let me go. But once you are there they will look for other things like warrants and stuff. Stay low pro.

It's not about the age, but I will agree, I started driving at 16.. My first car was Maxima 97 SE, modded to the bone, but first few months I did a lot of stupid things, scratches, bumps, side mirror...you name it.... and I've spent a lot of hard earn money fixing it... Then once I've gained experience, I stilen out my entire maxima... miss that car...it was stolen.

Advice: Spend a few months, driving slow and carefully, learn the car, feel the car, understand its likes and dislikes, and you will be a good driver. Of course, road school helps. Especially be careful during winter, which is coming up, LEARN how your car behaves on slippery surfaces, go to an abandoned lot, and learn, so you will not be surprised when you are making a turn, and you car has mind of it's own, and does the opposite... This is what separates "Man, that was close" from "Boom..f*ck"... and I after awhile..you will know the car so well, that all you'll be saying... "hmm, this was fun, let's do it again", lol

Mod? Don't mod anything yet... Be in the car, get use to the car, and then you will know what you really want in the car.

Have fun, be safe, peace.

You can put your exact home address, but do set up a pin code...

And as why not? Are you serious? Your TL ever gets stolen, they'll know where you live to come for more...

yeah i guess, i thought of that, but anyway, im lucky, the street that im on is a new development, so its not on the gps yet, i mean the dot is there, but its kinda hard to locate which one is mine since the houses are attached. plus the address is the one at the corner of the street. not my real one. so i guess im safe in that sense.

Yeah, you did. I didn't catch it at first. My bad. Maybe it is time for some glasses.

Still, no front tag is asking for the cops to take a second look at you. I wouldn't do it but to each is own.

it displays your home address on the screen before it takes you there. plus once you get there, all they would need to do is hit the garage opener to find your place.

Don't forget about your vehicle registration and any service receipts you have in the car. (They usually have your home address too!) Block out the street address on your vehicle registration. Your home address can be confirmed on your drivers license if a cop asks.
