Door Edge Molding Question.
Door Edge Molding Question.
I have asked this in other threads but I think they are dead now.
The door edge molding ( not the side molding ), what are they made of . Is it plastic that has imbedded color, plastic that is painted or painted metal.
For those that have them do they chip or does the finish wear off?
What I am up against is my garage parking is very tight and even tho I have carpet bumpers on both sides it still has a tendency to rub the finish off the door edge.
I looked at using touchup and then the clear film but the film is noticable on WDP.
I don't mind spending the money for the moldings but I don't want to put them on if slight rubbing is going to rub through the finish on them.
TYIA.

I have had the door edge moldings on my car for about two years now... not a single scratch on them... The garage I park in for work everday is mostly spaces that say "Compact Car Only" so it is very tight getting in and out of the spots. I usually can simply open the door until it touches the wall, then slip out of my ride. Again, not a single scratch on them....
They also blend well enough that I don't even see them anymore. To this day, they still match the paint perfectly...
I don't really know for sure what whether they are plastic or metal. When I put them on I remember that they were very stiff with just enough flex to get them on the car. I lined them up and then had to place a towel over top and tap them into place with a rubber mallet. Obviously they sit extremely tight against the car so they don't shift or move at all.
In 2 years, I have never had a problem with them; which means they do exactly what they are supposed to do and they do it very well.
Hope this helps...

They're painted metal and get dinged up just like the door edges would without them. The only real difference is that you nick and chip the door edge guards themselves instead of the door edge .... DUH ....
Got rid of mine after a few months and replaced tham with black pliable moulding, available in strips or on rolls. One of the advantages is that is you're less likely to dent someone else's door when you open yours and you can line the bottom door edges as well to prevent damage when you open the door next to a high curb.
