Dog Protection for TL?

Anyone know of a place that would provide a good cover for the back seat in the TL? I have a GSD which I don't want ruining the back seat from excessive shedding or more importantly holes in the leather.

I had heard there are custom fit covers out there somewhere.

Anyone deal with this issue?

Kevin

Just keep the dog home! Slober, paw tracks, hair, dog dick scum, dog stink, etc is what minivans and SUV's are for!

I love my dog, but he doesn't get in the TL. That is what my Explorer is for.

Dog Crate

Originally, I won't let my dog into TL at all,

However, with only one car left, (got rid of my old Accord), I have to take my dog to the park now and then in my TL. I decided to put a thick blanket over the back seat and have her stay in the Dog Crate so she can't go nuts in the car, carefully place the dog crate in the back seat.

So far, it is working out pretty good, my dog won't get to enjoy the sticking her head outside of window for a while, until my fiance moved in and get a SUV.

My dog has learned to rush into the crate so she can go out with me in the car.
oh, BTW, this works because my dog is 15 lb terrior.

One gun. One bullet. End of problem.

(Had to say it.)

If you HAVE to put the dog in the car, I'd go buy the thickest, biggest blanket you can find and cover that rear area as thoroughly as possible, tucking it in everywhere it will stick.

Its a blanket/carpet that attaches to the front and rear headrests, protecting the rearseat and the back of the front seat. The dog can still mess up the doors though.

Transporting dogs is why I got a V70R. I also have a 3er 'vert. No dogs allowed. Dogs running around in a car is a bad thing for a couple of reasons. In case of an accident, they're a projectile. Nails against leather and plastic = bad. Dog slobber's gross and gets everywhere even on rides as short as a half hour.

A dog proof solution...

To give everyone an update, I found this "dog hammock"

It appears to be a good fit for my needs, don't know if anyone else has experience with this product or not. I plan on putting some thick towels down under it for seat protection, but this should be a good barrier against hair and slober.

And will keep my 80 LB "projectile" in the back seat (hopefully) if anything happens.

My last vehicle (Jeep Liberty) was purchased around my dog, so I was making a huge "fun" sacrifice for him. When I set out to buy a new car in October, I decided not to do the same. Enter the TL...

Since I only own one car, I bought a pet hammock to protect the back seat. My dog is a >100lb Labrador and it works great (except for the hair and nose prints on the windows). The deluxe model is fleece on the underside to protect the leather.

Just a friendly plug...I don't work for the website or the supplier!

except substitute "Wife's Odyssey" for "Explorer".

rosko23 shows pretty much the way I had my old Saab set up for my Golden. You have to protect the seats from the really high pressure loads of a big breed's paws. All that weight on small feet will put stretch dimples in the leather. As far as shedding....give up on that. Your car's going to have fur in it. I highly recommend Formula 585 for that. That's 4 windows open + 1 moon roof open at 85MPH. Then again there's vacuuming but it isn't as much fun.

Don't forget the harness because it is really important for you and the dog. If GSD is a German Sheppard as I think then the last thing you want flying forward in the car is ~100 lbs (give or take) of dog. At best it's going to hurt the dog at worst it will take your head off (and still hurt the dog).

My dog (80 pound Labrador Retriever) rarely ever goes in the TL. Once when we had to pick her up from the animal hospital we put a blanket over the back seat, and I am sure there have been odd and end times when the TL was the only thing at home, but besides that, never.

Actually, my brother, sister, and mother make a bigger mess of the car. The dog just sleeps, or sticks her nose out the window(never her whole head) on the rare occasion she is in the car, my brother and sister grind food into the carpet, and my mother spills her drinks. It's my fathers car, but since I take care of it, it really gets to me most.

Anyway, some of those things look pretty good. The dog hammock seems like it would prevent them from trying to make their way to the driver seat if you leave them briefly. I know in the other cars if we get out for a minute we come back and shes sitting in the drivers seat, usually panting and drooling on the steering wheel.
