Does Your Engine Make A Different Sound With AC On?
Hi.
I own an 06 TL Automatic with Navi.
I noticed some interesting things.
When AC is off:
When I'm driving and when I accelerate (revving above 3000 rpm) the engine definitely has a fairly deep sound. I guess the regular sound is what I will refer to it as.
When AC is on:
When I'm accelerating (revving above 3000rpm), I notice the engine just around the 3000rpm mark or higher will make a bit of a higher pitched noise. Something like a smooth humming sound.
Is this normal? Or is something wrong?
It doesnt' sound bad. It sounds quite interesting but just curious to whether any of you experience the same thing.
Thanks.

in my car, when the ac compressor kicks on, a low rumble sound is what i head, at idle and at any other speed, though above 4.5K can't hear due to the roar of vtec... but it is normal. As for that humming noise, it is normal as well, it just depends on how much you push the gas pedal.

i have an 06 too and mine does the same thing as well....must be the computer trying to compensate for the load..have notice the break pedal getting sucked in when the ac is on.
What I also noticed on all cars ive been in is when the car is on and when you press 2 power window buttons whether it'd be up or down the car kinda vibrates a bit (sort of struggling to stay alive).

Welcome to owning a car! Not to be an ass or anything but ANY engine will make a different noise when the compressor kicks on. It a mechanical load and will change the tone as it cycles on and off. I had a car one time with a defective compressor that sounded like a supercharger since it had a whine to it and people would ask me what brand I had so it was pretty funny.
