Does the XM antenna cover come off

I have a 99TL and want to use the XM antenna cover from an 04 TL to allow me to mount my antenna on the roof and hide it with the cover. Stealthy looking.

Anybody able to remove the cover? I tried on my in-laws 04 TL, but it didn't seem to want to come off.

Any thoughts?

Someone having the service manual may give you some details how to remove it...

To remove the cover, you must first remove the headliner, then remove the nut that holds the antenna in place. The cover and antenna appear to be made together, so you have to remove the whole antenna to get the cover off.

The parts listing shows separate part numbers for each color, which also indicates it comes as an assembly. The list price is $88.17, but they show one separate part number for only $57.13, so maybe that is an unpainted one.

Did you get my reply. I got the impression you were in a hurry for an answer when you bumped after only a little more than an hour, and it has been longer than that since I replied, so I am a little concerned that something may have happened to you and you didn't get my answer.

A thought ... rather than installing a big, bulky XM antenna on the back of your car, why not boogy over to the xmfan store http://www.xmfanstore.com and buy an XM microantenna? Little pup is about two inches square, magnetic (even has little black feeties to protect your car's surface) and does a great job. Very unobtrusive. Not sure about the connector compatibility with your XM receiver, but help is not too far away!

If you wanna go one step further, mount the antenna on the back deck behind the seats. Then you won't have a cosmetic problem at all. Did this on my '03 G35 and it worked great.

Just give their car another month, the headliner will fall out by itself and you can get the xm antenna off.. J/K

In my Accord I had a sony XM unit and I just put the sharkfin in the back dash in a corner by the C-Pillar and it worked fine.

Because it hasn't been done. For some reason, I get horrible reception when I place it on the back deck. I don't want to put the nasty black antenna (with the wire hanging out of it) on the roof.

So, back to my question....

Has anyone taken the OEM antenna off and looked to see if it comes apart? I wanna gut it and pop my Skyfi antenna in it and mount it on the roof. Yes I know I'll have to drill a hole in my roof, but after I put a dremel to my car to put these in, it'll be a piece of cake.

I guess you guys don't take stuff apart on your car to see how it works.
