Does '05 5AT work in an '04?
Does '05 5AT work in an '04?
i havnt driven my car since freakin October!!! I am not building this shitty 04 tranny just to it can break down again. I was looking for the longest time for a salvaged 6mt Tl to do a conversion but i got better luck finding a leprechaun. I found an 05 tranny with only 23k miles. screw the conversion right? I was sure that it would work my mechanic is not sure.
Does anyone know FOR SURE (please no opinions or suggestions i am in dire need of info)
and yes i called acura they would not help

I never understood why Acura dealers wont help you out or let you know. Many dealers wont, based on my own experience. But I believe it should be identical. The only difference is the 07 and 08 tranny's. It is a beefier tranny from the rl while the 04 and 05 and 06 are all the same tranny's
ONLY difference I know of, is that the 05 has some updated parts compared to the 04. They changed the way the fluid goes through to make it more efficient/last longer. Other than that, same transmission, don't see why it wouldn't work.
According to the information I see, every year is an individual trans until the '07-'08 models that show they are interchangeable. In fact, if you take a look at the OEM parts, you'll see that the trans case set is '04 only and also wiring harnesses are different between '04/'05.
So I'd say it's questionable whether it will work.

i called acura of riverside and they parts manager refereed to to a transmission specialist who used o work for them until he opened his own shop. he told me it was possible but he did not say that he has done this before.
i am very skeptical now

well i have talked to 2 mechanics now including one that is very reputable here on AZ and they both said it is ok. Ill be back to verify because i know this has been discussed a great bunch. It will be a better alternative than getting a used or rebuilt 04 tranny just to break down again

If your're going for the '05 and if the yard has an '04 available, set them side by side to determine any differences, or if they require a trade in core, take your '04 and compare it to the "new" unit. Any differences it would be wise just to look for a low mileage '04.
Mike's in Wilmington has 5-'04 and 4-'05 A/T's showing available, so I would check with them to see what their opinion might be, or take a ride there and discuss and eyeball the units.
S&T in Sun Valley has one showing only 4,000 miles, if that is correct, but I'd check the production date of the vehicle to see it wasn't an early manufacture date.

I got a new transmission from Acura last year and they said the transmission was a "newer model" than the one in my 04. They did not give me an exact year. Well anyways the one they put in works great, not sure if that helps but yeah. Good luck man hope it all works out for you and you get your car running again.
turns out The 05 tranny i found with 23k on it is no good. They were gonna sell it to me when i called. but my cousin buys from there alot and they were honest to him and said it was no good. im back to step 1.
