Does $1.7k raw Ron Jon TL Aero Kit make sense for an almost 7 year old car?

My 2004 Acura TL is fast approaching its 7th birthday. I like the Ron Jon TL Aero Kit. However, the cost of the raw kit with shipping ($1.7k+), and then getting it painted and installed, will cost me around $3k or so.

Does it make sense to drop an additional $3k on a car this old? I noticed that the CL and Accord aero kits got a price drop back on 09/03/09, but not the TL. I wonder if I hold out a little longer, the price will drop to where it might make more sense? I've already done quite a few mods to my car that have cost me a few grand, so I know people will say "modding fever" and "sense" don't quite go together

I'm not sure Ronjon will ever lower their price of their kits unless the TL declines greatly.

I would just get the A SPEC kit. It looks clean, not too flashy, and less expensive.

Few grand for your items? I find that hard to believe unless you got ripped off

As for your question. No, don't think the RJ kit is worth that price.
But if it helps your decision, I've spent way more on one item for my 5+year old car.

It comes down to your budget, priorities, and personal limit.

Actually, I got good deals on the price of the parts from Acura of Tempe (this stealership matched oemacuraparts.com prices since they're essentially Phoenix metro competitors = Acura of Peoria), but I did have to pay taxes, as well as labor charges to get the parts installed (I know, I know). Also, I bought the 18" chrome ASPEC wheels used off Craigslist (still haven't bought 245/40-18 tires though), and the side mirrors used from autovulture.com (but had to pay to get them painted since ABP color stopped in '06).

In all honesty, there isn't anything that makes the RJ kit really stand out beside the front bumper. The rear of it looks like a mess and the sides, well just look meh. IMO, get yourself a TL-S A-Spec kit, cut up the front bumper and put that on! Get the TL-S sides and rear kit and take the time to put a quad exhaust on it to! 3K spent making it faster and look better rather than just 3K on the RJ kit

Yeah, I've been seriously thinking about going that route instead (ASPEC body kit plus new CAI and exhaust overhaul). Like many, I've also debated about buying a Type S, but it doesn't make financial sense because my car will be paid for in 1.75 years (bought it used from Carmax in '07).

Funny Im in the same boat. I was never one way deep into modding but now the car is old and Im tired of it... but it still runs great. Depreciated like 20k, buying a new car I'll probably end up losing another 20k lol. So I decided to mod it get make it enjoyable again, wheels, coils, and exhaust (check out atlp base, group buy supposedly ended but you can probably still get in on it). And thats over 4k so I should be alright for now lol. Another thing is I can always resell these mods to recoup some money.

oh yea i already have aspec kit but if you dont I would say get that first, huge difference and much cheaper than rj

I agree go with the aspec. BTW is there a difference between base ASPEC side skirts compared to type-s side skirts?

I just spent that on my MR2, which will qualify for collector car plates in 1 year

You've gotta remember that while your car is 7 years old, the body style was produced up to 2008. There are plenty of people running around with much newer cars that might want to buy a body kit.

That said, I agree with the others that it's not worth it - but if you like it and can afford it, why not?

I don't think the RJ kit makes sense for that price either. I don't really like it either though. I agree with cs to spend that 3K on an aspec kit and other mods.

Alright, you guys are starting to convince me. The Type S ASPEC body kit is nicer than the base, but I'll have it pay to get it painted since ABP color stopped in '06. Also, I know you have to cut out the bottom half of the rear bumper between the exhaust tips to do it. What about the front bumper? I'd really like to get a chrome upper grille with the honeycomb mesh, as well as the honeycomb mesh lower grilles with fog lights. Would buying a Type S front bumper (would have to get it painted ABP) allow me do that stuff easier (wouldn't have to cut up the upper and lower grilles and fog light housing, but would I have to cut up the front bumper to make it fit)?

On the plus side for the Ron Jon TL Aero kit, I really like the fact that it is four full replacement pieces instead of partial pieces held on with tape. Also, since they go lower to the ground compared to the ASPEC, I wouldn't need to lower my car (I'm 6' 7" and 330 lbs, so it ain't happenin'). Another thing, I won't have to worry about losing lower fog lights since I don't have any to begin with ('04 - '06 has them in the headlight housing). I know many think it has an "extreme" look, but it really would make my TL stick out compared to the numerous other TLs (at least three other TLs in my parking garage at work). I know, I know. I'm flip flopping.

Trust me. Just get what you want.
Don't flip flop because others tell you to do so.

If you want the RJ, then do it. There's a local WDP RJ around my area, and he turns heads.
Me personally, I don't like the look nor the price.

There are not many (if it all) ABP TL's w/ the RJ kit. Yours would be quite unique.

Blue Abyss, there's a couple of questions that need to be answered (by YOU!) before you make a final decision.

1) how long do you intend on keeping your TL? If you're going to keep it a while, get the Aero Kit

2) do you want your TL to look unique? So, so many people have the Aspec Kit (Base TL). The RonJon kit is truly unique and VERY good looking.

Personally, I won't put the Type S Aspec Kit on my Type S-it gives the foglights the "bubble-eye" look-just my opinion.....

its pretty simple if you are going to keep the car get the kit you want! I plan to get my RJkit and custom paint when i get back from deployment. turning my 04 into a whole new car. If you are not going to keep then car dont get it as it will be harder to sell.

Even when the RJ body kit looks ok, i think the price is way too high... I was thinking about doing the same thing before, but i had bad experience with the body kit that i bought for my lancer gts... Nevertheless, u can always do what i did, u can buy the type-s front bumper, paint it, buy the fog lights and other stuff as well u will be spending lest than 2k and ur car will look so much better... On the other hand, u can also buy the a-spec kit like some members said...
Personally, i think the under body kit that RJ has done for the accord and the cl are amazing; however, the 'body kit' they made for our cars (3G tl) is nothing like that...
If u really wanna buy the rj body kit, just go for the front bumper and keep the rear bumper as is...

i guess it could make sense. i see civics around with some volks or works wheels, or other mods which probably cost more than their car.

LOL i have the base tl and that is exactly what i did. Trust me --not worth the money. To order all the type s parts and paint/install them cost me well over 2g and another 1500 on quads/j-pipe/test pipe.

Since then ive swapped everything to base aspec and im just as happy with the style of the car.
