Do I want a 2005 TL?
Do I want a 2005 TL?
Hello everyone!
I am currnetly in the market for a more fuel efficient (currently have 6.0L escalade) vehicle. The TL seems to be the best option in the price range, other than the Lexus Es in which I find boring.
I have read reviews and all are great. Ive noticed a lot of others complainging about noises and squeaks.
Are there any issues that I should be leary of with a 05 TL? I am interested in a Auto with navi?
TIA!
Tim

everything will seem smaller compared to the escalade, but thats a given. If you have the GM nav in the escalade, the TL's is MUCH easier to use. I would just be prepared for a harder riding car, and being MUCH lower to the groud.
Keep in mind that every forum you go to the owners complain about the cars. If you're on any escalade forums you've seen the same thing. I would definitaly recomend it especailly in terms of fuel efficiancy.

Te3 makes a good piont...
It is very rare that people come to an car forum soley to praise the car. Most people come either ask questions about the car or report issues they are having with the car.
The rattles are minor compared to some of the problems you might find in other cars in its class.
Are you looking at any other cars beside the Lex? Whats your budget? If you are looking for a sportier ride, the TL will be better than the lexus.

Just want some reassurance that the car is of quality, not that GM's is the highest quality by any means..
I figure any car that will get decent fuel milage will ride rough compared to the escalade..it takes fuel to get that much weight moving..
Thanks Agian!

After driving the TL, I would consider it over the lexus Es and the Infiniti G35. If you are considering a Bmw, I find you do pay a lot for the name.
On the other hand a car I think you should look at may be a Audi A4 Quattro. The price is good, the quality of materials is sometimes said to be better than the Bmw and if fuel consumption is important the 2.0T is the best around now for power and fuel economy. I didn't believe it till I drove one but turbo lag is almost zero therefore it has better low end than the TL, but once the revs are up the TL will start to pull away.
I see your looking at mostly high end names so im sure you wouldn't want a VW on your grill. If you could put that aside the new 3.6l (280Hp) Passat has been getting gr8 reviews. More room, power, performance and all the same luxury items as the TL and even AWD if you want, with a whole new design. I Haven't driven one but so far all the reviews say that this car should now be bumped up a catagory......just one mans opinion and I hope it helps you with your choices. I have never owned a VW or Audi, but after seeing what they have this will probably all changed.

Y'know, I just got home from work and the lady that parks near me has a brand spanky new Jetta. Near-Anthracite color, black leather interior, 17" chrome-y upgrade wheel package (look like BBS to me), it's damn fancy. The interior is nice, very spacious, and to park next to it makes me think hmmmm.... hot ride at a low price. Doesn't look hardly any smaller than the TL either.

There's certainly more to it than color, size, and chrome wheels.
Only the OP can know if he wants a TL. Go drive one around on a variety of surfaces and roads and see how it feels for you. Most people only bother posting a gripe and rarely praise. It's easy to be swayed by that, but you don't need to be.
Not to big on the v dub's..
as with any car, one must do his/her research.
I have heard from a few that I know that they enjoy thier car (other than wishing for a 6spd)
There are more than a few threads of the TL being a bit more prone to rattling, squeeks and vibrations...
I drove a 04 TL with 30k on it and the car felt solid, other than a vibration at 50-55mph under load...not that id buy a used one when i can get a new one for about 3k more....but this was a quick comparision, new - older

Mine turned 12K today, here is my deal.
1. I can make the rear shelf rattle by turning the base and volume almost all the way up
2. I can make the center console vibrate by putting something hard in the wrong place.
3. I do feel a slight vibration 1500-2000 rpm.
4. I have had very few instances of torque steer.
5. Only 1 instance needing dealer service, MID temperature flatline, fixed under warranty.
Longest trip 500Mi+- roundtrip in one day with 4 adults (all happy). Took TL instead of MDX by choice.
The TL is NOT a BMW, Audi, or VW with all that that implies. I am very satisfied with my decision.
