Do I have to buy a LARGE coffee from now on???

Hey,

I've had my TL for a month now, and 2200 miles later, I'm pretty happy with it.

One gripe I do have is this:

I stop every morning on the way to work and grab a small coffee. In my 99 CL 3.0, I dropped the cup in the holder and it was fine. In my new TL, If you put a small coffee cup in the 1st cup holder (the front), it sinks so deep that you end up tearing the lid off the coffee cup to get it out! This is petty, but very annoying. I'm tired of having to wrestle a size small coffee cup out of the drink holder!!!

Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks,
Bucky

Must have been market research to increase the size of the cup holders...

The cup holders accommodate a 33oz bottle of water perfectly.

why don't you try putting something in the bottom of the cup holder and see if it:
- makes it easier to grad
- still keeps the cup stable enough not to fall out

You might be able to find a rubber/plastic piece at pep boys to make the hole smaller. I know some other cars/trucks come with a removable piece like this to allow you to fit the larger cups...you just need to find this so you cna do the reverse.

Or get yourself a travel mug that fits. Then just empty the cup every day into the travel mug. I know Acrua sells them but I don't know if they actually fit.

I like the first cup holder. When I buy a drink I always put it in the first one. It's deep enough so that the cup wont be that high. This way I can shift. For smaller drinks just use the second holder.

Just have them put your smaller coffee portion into a larger cup. Simple!

Here’s a five page thread that’s already said everything you can say about cup holders.

And here’s a shorter one, but still good. Don’t let the subject line fool you.

the way i see is that you need to buy a large coffe. i think they go for like 20 cents more... round here... lol..even of you dont drink it all. Or.. check this out.. ask for a small and if they can please give you an empty large cup and just place it inside the large.. with the hole cup. not just the liquid.

Why stop at buying a larger cup of joe or inserting napkins? Just get a brand new car with a smaller cupholder and you can continue to get your smaller cup of coffee!

Just kidding, of course...

I like not hitting the cup, but I have already spilled a cup of coffee in there because I pulled the top off... it was pretty funny, I was pretty mad but I got over it.

Next time you're at the gas station - buy a can of chewing tobacco (Kodiak) or two if you have really small coffee cups.

Drop it in the cup holder - which it fits perfectly, cuz it's not too big you can't get it back out - and you have an instant 1 inch booster seat for your cups. I have done this and it works very well

To solve your problem you're going to have to get the 05 RL. It has cup holders in the same place as the TL, but there is a tiny button you push and the bottom of the cup holder rises up to accommodate smaller cups. So, there -- for $15,000 additional you get your solution

Now that you mention it... I have noticed that when I use my favorite travel mug, the little tabs that grip the side of the cup to hold it steady rub a little bit when I pull the cup out of the holder. It's really quite annoying, almost like fingernails on a chalk board...

I bought an Acura mug and it fits snug in the holder. Its the one with a wider upper and has a copper ouside. I have to warn you though if you go to Starbucks they will charge you for a Grande size. It's a great mug.

If you don't want cup holders, you can buy a German car.:P My '98 BMW 5-series had the most pathetic cup holders on the planet - flimsy and useless (and I am not a big drinker while driving - but when you go through the drive thru of a restaurant, you need to put your drink someplace until you get home or back to the office).

Germans just don't drink in their cars I guess.

The cup holders are just fine. Here are your options:
1) Buy a bigger coffe every morning
2) Buy a large coffe mug that you use every day
3) prop up the coffe cup with an object

Funny you brought it up. On the History channel yestrerday was a program about the Autobahn and a interviewee mentioned that for years German car makers couldn't understand why Americans need cup holders...driving is a rather "serious" activity in Germany.

Hell yeah, it is. I went to college with a guy from Germany. He told me it tooks months of drivers training and a lot of money to get his license. As opposed to here, where it took a 15-minute drive and a lame-ass test.

My dealer, Rick Case, gave me a stainless travel set in a zippered carrying case. It has a Thermos Container and two large isulated coffee cups. Everything is stainless steel and black. It matches the interior colors.

We got the Acura tall mug to go with our TL. (I'm sure any travel mug will do!) It fits well in the cup holder and keeps the trash out of the car. Plus, I make my coffee at home so I don't have to stop and pay $3 for a cup of joe. I also don't have to park my baby in the Starbucks parking lot with all those customers in a hurry to open their car doors with coffee in their hands banging their doors against my TL.
