DIY oil change A1 thoughts

So I have it pretty good: I have a built in concreate oil pit (ramps, ladder the whole bit), Anyways I was changing my oil the other day A1 service and all and could not believe the amount of oil left in the filter after I drained the pan. Anyone else run into this?

Better yet anyone have a good techniquie to catch all the excess oil, without making a mess? (not to much room under there as you know)

Since the filter mounts straight up to the engine, it should always be full of oil.

I think it was Road Rage who suggested a plastic baggie wrapped around the oil filter, then loosen it, let it fall in the bag, and remove it without a lot of mess.

If the 3rd gen is much like the 2nd gen, I loosen the filter to the point where it's dribbling. It rides down the filter to a predictable edge (which misses the frame). I let it sit for a minute or two, and the filter is then easy to loosen so that it won't make a mess.
