The DIY Guides here

Are horrible. Sorry to be blunt about this.

But how is this (https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/so-you-want-lower-grill-valance-fog-lights-your-tl-huh-pics-3g-garage-g-031-a-563090/) a DIY guide?

I want to replace the fog bulbs on my 07 Type S but cannot find one guide on here that goes beginning to end.

I am a mod in the RDX forum and you check see in the DIY & FAQ forum how detailed and broken down the guides are. I looked through a few here and no disrespect to those that posted but they are horrible.

Two things I wanted help on (how to remove the rear speaker deck and changing out the fog bulbs) I could not find any useful info on.

Time to purchase a helms online subscription.

How many Mods does it take to replace a fog bulb?! lol

What is so incredibly complex about some fog bulbs? Seriously, it doesn't deserve a DIY in the first place.

^agree. you just twist it out, replace bulb, twist it back in.

as far as the rear speaker deck...grab a flathead screwdriver.

1st, the thread you linked is not marked as a "DIY". IOW, it's an informational post.

These are a couple of DIY's:

B-001: DIY VIDEO: Uninstalling OEM Intake & Installing Cold Air Intake
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169110

A-110: DIY: Guide to replacing 3rd & 4th gear pressure switch for 3G TL
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/110-diy-guide-replacing-3rd-4th-gear-pressure-switch-3g-tl-2004-2006-a-729149/

D-001: DIY: Brake Line Replacement
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178131

D-091: DIY:Front and read damper/shock spring replacement
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-tires-wheels-suspension-97/diy-ht-spec-coilver-install-dummies-any-other-suspension-3g-garage-d-091-a-816065/ - w/Pics and including Rear Seat Removal

Second, I will agree that not all the DIY's are as good as we'd all like, but most are pretty good. The real issue is that some are old and the pics are no longer hosted.

If you haven't yet, check this area for DIY's and info. There is tons of Fog Light info. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-garage-faq-3g-tl-newbies-553554/

Pretty sure there are some posts around on changing fog light bulbs, but not sure a DIY has ever been done since it's a fairly simple undertaking. IOW - I think most of the posts are merely "tips" or descriptive, and not DIY's per se.

I know how to replace the bulb, I've done it several times on other vehicles....but getting to the bulb is the issue. What would be the easiest way to get to it.

I'm thinking just removing the wheel well cover and bending it out of the way to get to it. Either way I'll tackle it on my own tonight and post my DIY guide

what you can do is take out the 2 clips from the fender liner(turn wheel first) and 1 bolt and 1 clip from the under side of the bumper. that should give you enough clearance to pull the fender liner out to reach your arm in and change the bulb. thats what i did, i just changed out my bulbs a couple days ago. hope that helps.

As soon as my Acurazine paycheck comes in I'll worry about generating higher quality free DIY guides. I'll admit that some DIY's are a little lacking but it's free info from people who aren't paid to post it.

A handful of them....yes, they do suck. I found the DIY FOGLIGHT INSTALL to be the single most infuriating one as it was nothing but high-res images of a SHOP installing everything.

Look at the big picture, though - it's not that all the DIYs suck, I suspect you're just expecting them to look a certain way.

...BUT, there's a few bad apples in any batch. Overall, this site and the information contained herein fawking ROCKS.

EDIT: I expect your DIYs to be of only the highest caliber...or are you one of those members that critiques DIYs, but never bothers writing one yourself?

ya I guess what I'm saying is a lot of what I see in that Garage really shouldn't be there as they are posts of people getting opinions and such. There were a few that were good and made sense.

There is no wrong doing here, just what I saw.

IMHO, ANY forum needs a "purging" of the DIYs every now and again, and the DIYs should reflect the evolution of the site and the enthusiasm of the community.

It is Spring Cleaning time, no?

This would be the easiest, its one of the last steps of removing the bumper. Don't even need to remove the wheel just turn it like paper boy said and you can pull back the fender liner and have easy access to it.

Sorry I cant edit, but I do agree the DIY's here arent the great and alot are outdated. I just installed a CAI on my 07 type S and using the same tut as the one posted above in the links, there are alot of unexpected stuff I ran into other than just disconnecting the fog lights. Granted I can't complain since I didn't make a DIY myself, I also didnt figure there were a few extra bolts hidden here and there, which ended up being the hardest part of the install.

When you guys are ready to volunteer to weed through what's good and what's not, what's out dated, what's missing links, sort the old chaff from the wheat, etc., let me know and we'll work out the details.

I'm sure Astro and Ron A wouldn't mind giving Mau edit rights to help clean out the garage.

Until then this is just idle chit-chat (which is fine if that's as far as this thread goes).
