DIY 3G Engine Air Filter Replacement

I searched and the only one that came up was one for a 4g TL? Can someone point me in the right direction please? I'd like to change my engine air filter. Would going with the OEM engine air filter or an aftermarket one be the better route?

Thanks in advance.

Just buy OEM or one's from an Auto Part Store. A air filter has no effect on MPG. And the K&N filters are nearly the same as the OEM/Aftermarket filters out there, basically you're buying the name. If you buy K&N it may have a .0001% improvement, not worth the extra money.

Sorry forgot about that.

You can find all the DIY's in the 3G Garage.

Link too it is here.

And the thread which tells you in detail on how to replace air filter is.

Right here.

The search button also is a VERY useful tool. Make friends with it!

I have two 3G TL's, one manual and one automatic, and I use the Purolator A25585 (make sure it's made in Israel since some are also made in Mexico) in both of them. If you live in a highly dusty environment (lots of construction or some other air-borne dust conditions), best to go with the OEM filter. You will need a nut driver with one or two extensions to remove the upper filter housing. Here's what to do for an 04' through 06' 3G TL.

o Separate the plastic electrical conduit from its clips at the rear of the upper filter housing.
o Completely loosen all four small bolts at the corners.
o Raise the housing from the rear (part closest to the ribbed coupling) then raise the front.
o Work the housing up favoring the rear part until you can tilt the front up high enough to remove the older filter and insert the new one.
o Set the upper filter housing back in place and make sure it is fully seated at all corners.
o Tighten the small bolts.
o Put the plastic electrical conduit back in its upper housing clips.

Check your work. Make sure everything is secure and the ribbed throttle body coupling is fully attached to the upper filter housing.

I had a heck of a time getting the clips from the eletrical conduit off the air filter housing. I finally figured it out and posted some input on this thread. Maybe it will be useful...

It takes a little time to crack open far enough to replace the filter.

Acura dealer said it was easy as removing the 4 bolts and lifting the top off, but evidently, that's not true as there is too little room to work with to just "lift the top off".

I just swapped my OEM out with a K&N drop in filter. I just removed the two bolts from my fuse box and undid the clip from it. That gave me enough room to just slip the filter out after the 4 bolts were removed. I actually did notice a differance in sound. It sounds like my AEM cold air did on my h22 prelude. As far as actual gains showing on a dyno........probably not but don't underestimate the power of the placebo effect. I know red emblems add like 20 hp or at least some people still believe it.

The k&n never needs replacement though, you just clean it every once in a while. Thats worth the $50 it costs I think.
