Dislike the 6MT shift knob

My wife really dislikes the shift knob on the TL.

Any experiences out there with aftermarket knobs? What did you choose? How happy are you? Issues with the shift boot?

Thanks for the insights!

I just placed an order for a TWM Performance Weighted Shift Knob. It weighs the same as the Skunk2 @ 440 grams. It is a little more expensive than the Skunk knob but I was tired of waiting for the Skunk knobs to be back in stock. Attempted to order a Skunk knob from three different vendors. Plus I prefer the black color of the TWM knobs.

Ill never have an aluminum knob again. Had one for my vette. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Needed gloves to handle it comfortably for 1/2 the year it seems.

I didn't like it either...

so I followed advice on this board to buy the Skunk. Unfortunately it does not integrate satisfactorily with the TL boot. It is held in place by a lock nut, and the plastic ring on the boot can be forced over this nut, but it does not hold permanently. The periodic falling off of the boot was enough to make me go back to the OEM. I loved the knob on my BMW -- it was the rest of the car that gave me problems. Good luck with finding an alternative that works.

Funny - I watched "Armageddon" one night, then got the idea of a chrome Skull shift knob with BLUE LED eyes! Ghetto perhaps, but the idea cracked me up.

Apparently it was discontinued, and I had to get it from a place in CA. It was only $20 or so with shipping and handling. Worth it for the novelty of a TL with skull shifter.

It looked neat, especially with the glowing LED's matching the interior lighting - and gave the shifter a nice feel to it as well. Plus my 3 year old daughter got a kick out of it.

Then it came off in my hand during a shift after only a month or so. The novelty has worn off, and I am back to the OEM knob.

The Skull shifter is now located on my lawn tractor!!!

I saw TONS of aftermarket shifters while I was searching, they're definitely out there.

Is it your car or hers? Do you like the stock shift knob?

If the answer is "yes" to both of these, tell her she has no say in the matter. It's your car and you'll do as you see fit.

Yeah. I think the stock shifter looks great in the TL. I has a measure of class and it just seems to fit the car.

The knob looks fine and it's made really well. But the seams are pretty rough and when driven with verve for a long time, they tend to bother the palm a bit. Just an unnecessary irritant in an otherwise superb car.

I'd love to have one of the MOMO ergo knobs, but they attach poorly and I doubt they would integrate with the boot well.

I guess we will put up with it. Thanks for the info.
