Discovered something cool about my TL!

Hey guys,

I dunno if you guys already know or not, probably do lol, but the other night i discovered that if u leave your headlights on, and lock your car the lights automatically turns off in a couple seconds, and when u unlock your car the headlights turn on! thats pretty cool cause where i work i can see my car in the parking lot and whenever i see some shady ppl walk near my car i always unlock my car so my bright white leds and headlights turn on to scare them off =D and obviously i would lock it again right away =P

if you have a very sensitive aftermarket alarm system that will light up too once it goes off, so be careful not to leave it on or it will damaged your bulbs and drain your battery.

ha how long have you been driving it? you just found out... lol, i think you can switch how long you want it to be on when you lock it, its prob under one of the driver setting, but for me i mines turns off as soon as i lock my car.. nifty little feature eh?

yea thats a cool feature, but i would think its bad for ur headlights, because it turns on, and turns off in like 10 seconds, and u open up the door again, and they turn on, which is bad for the lights to keep doing that

well bet you didn't know this part... if you have a clear view of the car and you unlock it, you can have it automatically lock, its in the MID settings

Hey, once hids are off, they need a minum of 30 seconds period before they can be ignited again to prevent short life.

So set it accordingly in the keyless remote settings.

Peace

press the lock button twice to skip the waiting period, if you have it set to wait. (maybe you're in more of a rush...?)

you know what would really suck though? if you try to scare off the "shady" people by unlocking your car so the light blinds them.. and then you cant transmit the signal anymore to lock your car... LOL then youd have to go down the elevator walk to your car and lock it all over again..

While it is not the best for the lamps, it is even worse for the ballasts. This is why you should not flash your headlamps during times they are off. It is also why I am glad my '04 TL does not have auto-on headlamps like my former Altima SE did.

Auto-headlights are pretty convenient in my TLS, but the sensor is not sensitive at all, it only goes on at night, but not in very cloudy/rainy weather.

Hmmmmm...
Nah

If you are driving at night, and you turn your high beams on, the HIDs turn off don't they? Say you flash to pass or whatever, your HID's come right back on.
Am I missing something? That would seem to violate your "30 second rule" [lol].

Actually the feature the OP mentioned is actually a VERY old feature for Acuras. My 2000 TL also does this. Most people just dont know because the alarm still beeps anyway when you leave your lights on.

Hey Spaw,

My 30 seconds rule is really not mine, but some manufacturer's recommendations when operating hid bulb, so I dunno

In regards to our bi-xenon hids, our bulbs when high-beaming do not turn on and off, but always stay on Try it against a wall, you'll see.

All the best, peace

If it was such a bad idea, Honda would have never allowed it.

I don't think Honda cares if you get a problem with the car long term after doing it 1000s of times years down the road. I keep it off too. Why turn the headlights on before they get a chance to warm up and then turn them off and on again? Other cars that have illuminated entry either keep them on during startup or they don't even use the headlights. They use parking lights or better yet, the foglights. My Mercedes used to do that, I loved them like that. GM cars additionallly turn on the backup lights.

I don't want my lights to do that. I do, however, want the demon eyes to cut on!

I was trying to be a little funny. Isn't there a 30 second rule in B-Ball?
Interesting information...which is what the forum is all about
