Difference Between U.S. and Canadian Model TL Type-S

I'm new to this site. So I don't know if there's another thread for this but I was wondering if anyone knows If there's is a difference between the Canadian model TL Type-S and U.S. I was looking at one in Canada. I know the speedometer is different and the temps are in Celsius. I also notice that the Canadian model TL speedometer goes to only 140 mph and U.S. goes to 160 mph. I know its limited and I'll probably never have the need to go that fast but I'm just picky. Can I change it to U.S. gauges ? and can I change it from Celsius to Fahrenheit ?

Because Canada uses km/h instead of mph. 140mph on Canadian tl's is prob is just the secondary reading on the speedo. USDM TLs go to 160 mph and the secondary measurement of km/h goes to to 240. I thought this was common knowledge most of the world besides the U.S. uses km? But I don't think there is really any notable differences between CDM and USDM, of course iv never seen a Canadian TL gauge cluster so maybe im wrong.

Yea I'm just trying to figure out if there's any big differences between the CDM and USDM TL Type-S and if I could change speedo to MPH and the Degrees to Fahrenheit

Also the fuel consumption display is in L/100KM instead of MPG and Tire Pressures are all in KPA not PSI.

Any way to change KPA to PSI?

Yeah there's a way to do it, but it is cost prohibitive to change out the cluster just to get your readings in Fahrenheit and to have mph as the primary speed indicator. The Canadian model will have mph as secondary, so you will just have to look at the inner circle to see your speed.

There are no other differences that I know of between Canadian and American TL-S's.

If you're picky, then don't buy a car from another country that uses a different measuring system. My advice is to buy a US car or learn to convert from metric. Most Canadians can convert miles to kilometers, quarts to litres and Fahrenheit to Celsius, because we grew up with both so it is not that hard to do.

what about navigation? Better yet, what if you have a Canada dvd navi player but you load a USA disc.. would it work fine? It might even convert some things with that USA disc! what do you think? I wonder if the Canada player would read the USA disc?

That might be a function of the software - Disc.

it will read it just fine. since canada and US are bordering countries, pretty much all car manufacturers allow the use of interchangeable maps. I think the US map will read up to like 50(?) miles or so into canada, then you will need to get a canada disc to continue. It states this EXPLICITLY in the owners manual. you should read it sometime

You could divide your kPa value by 1000 and multiply it by 1.45*10^-4 for a corresponding Psi value. Sorry, it's late here and my schooling takes over when I see conversations about units lol.

I am sure there is an easy way to change F to C. my 2000 toyota camry did it with just a push of a button.

It only changes the navigation. The rest of the settings are all controlled by midi and can't be changed. Too bad it doesn't switch everything bc my tahoe does.

It's kinda sad. A 2006 civic can change it all with a touch of a button on the left side, but a 2008 TL can't do that. But then again they do have digital cluster and there's no tpms pressure to convert.

Why not just multiply it by 1.45*10^-7?

The reason i ask all this is because i am thinking about buying a canadian 07 player for my 05. I've already tested an 07 usa player and the pinout is fine and it works.. but never tried a candian player on my car. And I just received the 4.c0 disc from navteq for USA car. So i need a player but i dont want any metric units. Thanks.

A canadian player shouldn't be an issue. Besides like I said, all canadian tl's let you change navigation between km and miles in your navigation settings (do US models do the same?) I can't imagine a single difference between the actual hardware of the players on either side of the border.

I think its based on software.. (the disc) Hardware does not change like that, unless it is written in assembly or machine language which would be stored on a EPROM or PROM or EEPROM. But I strongly doubt that is the case here. The only difference in part number when it comes to the navigation player for America and Canada is the "C" on the last 3 digits. The digits are the same but the C is added. I would guess the C means it comes with a Canadian Disc.. But anyway, I don't know what you are calling MIDI.

I did a search and US models do the same thing so it appears there is no differences at all between the players- this makes perfect sense since people in Canada also buy your same map disc for full US coverage.

Oh that is good information. "people in Canada buy the US disc for full coverage". In other words, USA disc's will work in a Canadian player...

the 2nd top most question is...

"WILL IT DISPLAY RED" like the Type-S's....

I bet that is another software thing.. (not a hardware thing)

Oops...sorry for typo. I meant MID (computer display). Yah it's too bad that it doesn't switch everything like a lot of others cars.

Anyways, my background options in Canada are blue grey amber red. Same for you?

05 Main Screen : 07 Canadian DVD player : 07/08 Type-S Cd player : DVD V4.C0

I bought a Canadian DVD player, and a 4.C0 dvd from Navteq. And I asked for the type-s DVD. she said "I have it right here on my screen.. type-s".. So I said ok. I'll take it. I noticed on the Nag screen it has the OK button, there is another button that says "Francois". But it does not bother me. That is the only thing I see different as I use it. But if you go into settings, you will see "Language settings", and it has English and French. And there is another setting that says KM or Miles. That's it.

I'm just trying to figure out how to calibrate the dang thing! I pressed Map/Guide, Cancel, and Settings all simultaneously and went into monitor check and calibration.. But get this, I can't figure out how to make it set. makes me feel stupid but it's not that intuitive. It says to press Map/guide to cancel the setting or something like that. Then it says to press the Joy stick to make it set. So, I keep doing all that in various different orders, and it's not doing it. kinda agrivating me. Because I cannot touch the bottom row. Only the bottom row I cannot press. And that effects the Sound button where you adjust the equalizer. I have to Joy stick over to that button because it is on the bottom right hand corner and it wont pick up my finger.

Notice it says colOUR.. I wonder if that is indicative of the French?

This Canadian DVD player was $400 (minus $25 ebay bucks) whereas the others on ebay are $500 from someone who seems a bit shady.. to $700+ from more reliable sellers.. So far it seems like I did ok on this. Thankfully! You know, sometimes there is a chance it may not do what you expect. Glad it worked out and I'm very happy with it.
