did this ever happen?

did this ever happen to people that blacked/cleared out their headlights?

I am a noob @ this so it took me a little while to get the headlights out.

I finally got one out in an hour or so...

Then I walk into my kitchen...

and i open my oven...

and my headlight will not fit in my oven.....

i have 2 ovens the SAME size... very useless.. i dont know what the people were thinking putting two small ovens on top of one another...

that REALLY pissed me off especially when it took me an hour or so just to get one headlight out...

So i decided to put it in the farthest it can go in and bake it with the oven open. I put it around 200 once the headlight was in, and literally 10 minutes later i hear a sizzle. the plastic was melting from the bottom of the headlight. So i quickly took it out and took the cover off... I dont get why it started melting within 10 minutes when i didnt even pre-heat the oven and it was only 200 degrees...

Long story short...

I wish i could turn back time and never decided to black out my headlights....

Damn.... a horror story about clearing out headlights.. I was thinking about doing this since I got the car and was REALLY about to do it within the next month, but damn.... =\

Sorry to hear about your headlights man. It might be because your oven was too small and the heating rods were too close to the headlight itself? Not sure, but sorry man!

you need to use a wet towel so that the plastic doesnt melt on the shelves!

FYI, I also remember some people placing the headlight on a silicone mat. Serves the same purpose as the wet towel, but it might be even safer since the towel can always dry out.

in the gen2 diy on headlights it suggest aluminum foil be taped around the ovens edges,, to expand its diameter by a foot or so = then the housing fits

also suggest preheat then turn OFF the oven iirc

If you want to this mod done right the first time, definitely consider not doing it yourself. One really needs to know what they are doing when opening up 200 dollar headlights. New at the dealer is more like 400 or something. Also a heat gun works fine too.

Having JnC do it, is definitely worth the money.

Damn, sorry to hear about the headlights, I went with JnC as well, I was tempted to do it myself but then I figured paying $1000+ for new type-s headlights for my mistake or pay JnC $150.
