Angry Dented alum trim with seatbelt

My wife, a sweetheart and long time car destroyer keeps getting in and jamming the seatbelt into the general area of hoping to get it in (problem is that the seatbelt is right buy the pretty alum in the tan colors). this dents very easily and now three. I was wondering what was doing this until I studied her getting in.
Should I mention the time she backed into the garage with the door open and jammed it in the sheetrock. She put a poster over the hole to hide it. Funny gal. Anyone else notice this on their cars?

Sounds like it may be time to trade her in.

I had a hang over the other week after the super bowl and I got into my car not thinking and jammed the seatbelt into the aluminum trim. I was so Pis**d. It kind of is unnoticeable but it does seem to dent very easy.....reminding me of foil.

Just how hard do you JAM your seat belt in? I'm thinking it must be at least a 2 feet vertical dive hoping for the goal from reading the above posts. Sounds like some very unlucky stabs. Maybe it's time to put on the Faux.

Red face Re: Dented alum trim with seatbelt

My car too has a dent in that alum trim due to the seat belt, which happened in the first week of having 04TL.

No more... :o

Probably a good idea to put clear packing tape over the area to protect it from scratching

Yes! these dents/dings are unavoidable. One thing you can do is use both the hands to put the belt in. Usually one hand pull and fumbling for the catch is the culprit. Also, putting tape or 3M material will not avoid this IMHO. It will avoid the scratch but not the dings.

the best thing to do, which is what i always do is put yout fingers that are holding the belt in front of the actual buckle to feel and guide the belt in to the hole.

If your careful with the belt, you should NOT get any dents. I got a couple of scratches from my jacket zipper. Tape DOES help!! I can`t notice the film at all.

I've got this problem as well!

I'm going to consider the aluminum trim as a wear item that has to be replaced every couple oil changes, and not worry about whether it gets ding'd or not.

Have you inquired about how much it would be to replace the dinged aluminum trim every couple of oil changes?

I just asked. $80 bucks just for that little strip of aluminum.

Hmmmm, for $80 a pop, I'm thinking that I would be a little bit more careful with putting on the seatbelt or getting in and out of the car. That's more than I want to spend every few trips to the service shop.

I saw the same thing in two TLs on the dealer's lot. I never suspected the seatbelt until I read this thread. My fist thought was somebody hit it pretty hard but I guess it doesn't take much to dent it.

Someone's dealer ever replaced his alum trim free due to warranty issue months ago. Thus, if your service workers scratch over your trim, make the dealer replace for you. My dream!

Nope, I've got no holes in any of my sheetrock. Oh, wait you were interested in an answer about the trim. No, I dont have any. But then again, I'm pretty good about clicking the belt in, and taking it out. Making sure I dont slam the window on the way out, nor the trim on the way in.
