Decision Time: Replace Dash?

Like many of you I have the airbag outline in the passenger dash. I am going to the dealer next and am thinking about replacing the dash. Have any of you had it done and how did it come out?

I used vinylex on my dash, lines are gone for now. Doubt the dealer would do a good job replacing the dash, doesn't seem worth it.

We can hardly trust those monkeys to change our oil properly. I think you're asking for a ton of trouble, especially considering the TL is so feature-laden and well assembled. You can bet it will rattle like there's no tomorrow.

You'll end up with far worse problems that those airbag lines.

A week ago it seemed obvious to me -- NO WAY! I would never let them rip apart my car over that. Rattles, mis-alignment, god only knows.

But then last week I noticed the outline on my own dash for the first time. Rage. But after "counting to 10" I've decided to live with it. Oddly enough, the outline has since went away.

I swear...you have to be like Phil Jackson and be a zen master owning the TL....a new car with 10000 miles or less should not rattle like a Chevy Citation.

Yea, but where else do you find a vertical radio like that - c'mon, Citation's are gonna make a comeback - you'll see.

I doubt the dealer will even entertain the thought of replacing a dash for the lines - they will tell you it is normal I am guessing. I wanted to do this - but after going to both of my local service departments for other minor stuff - there is NO WAY they could handle a job like that. I'd really like them to fix my rear deck rattle too, but I do not think they are skilled enough.

I have to go with the masses on this one. I have the lines and do not really care. I have a little paint peeling on my bumper where it rests against the headlights and I wont let the dealer mess that up either. For me, it's just a car; however, I understand for some it's their "baby".

Cheers,

Don't Do It!

The potential for collateral damages and improper reassembly far outweight the rewards. Besides, there's no guarantee that the new dash cover will look any better.

well, you can ask the service advisor if they can do it w/o effing it up. and if he/she says it'll be fine, then get it done (if it bothers you, that is)... and if they do eff it up, helloooo loaner. a great way to keep mileage off your car, imo.
