Debadge on 5 year old car?
Debadge on 5 year old car?
I've never debadged a car before, but I think the 3G TL looks amazing with the "Acura" and "TL" badges. I have a 2008 CBP TL. Would I have to worry about being able to see the difference in paint darkness where the badges used to be?
After some research, it seems like a hairdryer, dental floss, and goo gone is a good way to do it?

I personally think the TL looks plain and like it's missing something without those badges on. However, that's all personal opinion. To answer your question, I don't see how a car as young as a 3G TL would have paint/clearcoat fade, even it was never garaged. So I would imagine if you removed them there should be no difference. But, leave them on, it looks better ;-P

Hair dryer yes fishing line> dental floss and with a microfiber cloth and nail polish remover you'll be done in 20 min I did mine that way nothing worked till I used to nail polish remover or plain alcohol will work
Remove just the "Acura". Even Acura decided to do it. 95% of the cars today do not letter the brand. Just the symbol and model. It looks so much better. IMHO. You should have no sign of the old. Gasoline dissolves amazing well the adhesive.
It's not adhesive that is holding the letters on. It's heavy duty 3M double sided tape. Same stuff you use to mount your aspec kit. Agitating gasoline on a cars paint is a quick way to destroy clear coat.
yeah, you'll probably want to just stick to goo gone (it's citrus-based so I don't think it'll adversely affect the paint) and floss.
i debadged my 2007 a month ago and there was a difference in darkness where the letters used to be, but then it went away right when I used clay bar. Ultimate compound is also a good idea.
I'd say debadge but keep the Type-S

Plastic scraper or a credit card work great too, not hard enough to scratch the clear. I used a heat gun, plastic scraper, and 3M adhesive remover. No issues, looks much cleaner. I hate badges and would remove the A if there weren't two holes.
if you're capable of removing a sticker, you're capable of removing the emblems/badges...
Debadge ftw. My Accord was 7 years old when I took off the "Accord" and "V6" emblems. The "H" would have been gone too if it wouldn't have left holes.
Looks so much cleaner and washing the back end is easier now.

Wether you will see ghosting or not depends a lot on the condition of your paint and how it was cared for. If I was neglected then you have to realize the paint under he emblem was protected and will look more pristine. UC by hand may not be enough.. You might want to stop in at a detailer and have him buff out the area with a machine.
